What is the best and easy to handle software for splitting a long wav or flac file into tracks? Without creating sector boundary errors for a potential CD burning. Thanks for your suggestions.

I've used audacity in the past, but recently I've waited for someone to do it here. I'm slow with it and by the time I would get done with a show, someone would have already finished it, labeled the songs, and put it online. I'm amazed by the work people do here and the quickness in which they do it. Thanks to all!

Aligning to sector boundaries is only necessary when you are creating a physical CD. If the music stays entirely in the digital domain (FLAC, WAV, etc.) then you don't have to worry about sector boundaries because there are no sectors.

Redbook stores audio in sectors - 1/75 of a second, or 588 samples. To ensure you don't have glitches between songs, you either need to use CD burning software that automatically shifts things for you, or your files have to be multiples of 588 long.

For example, if track 1 is 589 samples long (hey, the math works), there will be a gap of 587 samples between tracks 1 and 2 unless you a) move 1 sample from the end of track 1 to the beginning of track 2, b) move 587 samples from the beginning of track 2 to the end of track 1 or c) let smart CD burning software do one of the two for you. Sound forge is a good one

i.e. This is a cuesheet generated using the blu-ray chapters and CUEgenerator fantastic tool. Just the first 6 tracks, as you can see, the timings in red are out of Redbook format. With CD Wave Editor, you can easily edit this cuesheet to match 1/75 of a second. Since cue sheets are stored as plain text files you can also edit it by hand. i.e: Track 5: 12:43:76 --> 12:44:01 redbook.

If you know how to cut tracks... Most audio editing programs (e.g., Sound Forge, iZotope, Audacity, Cool Edit, etc.) do not automatically cut files along sector boundaries. Either change their settings to force them to split .wav files correctly (to cut on a 1/75th second CD sector boundary), or avoid them for CD tracking.
