dBpoweramp CD Ripper - [www.dBpoweramp.com] . It's a paid Software but it handles Metadata better than EAC. Also slightly faster ripping in secure-mode than EAC. Good user-interface.

dBpoweramp CD Ripper - [www.dBpoweramp.com] . It's a paid Software but it handles Metadata better than EAC. Also slightly faster ripping in secure-mode than EAC. Good user-interface.

EAC could use 3 metadata providers (offered during installation)...
- GD3 plugin (free 10 day trial - 1- time payment after trial)
- CTDB plugin (CTDB stores replicated metadata from MusicBrainz, freedb and Discogs) <-- this is what I use
- Built-in freedb engine (can be configured to access the freedb mirror database hosted by dbpoweramp)

The ripping speed (in Secure mode using "test & copy") depends on many factors like your hardware, optical unit, the condition of the CD and many more variables. A notebook optical drive is not the same than a Plextor external unit. I definitely prefer lower speeds like 2x-3x than 10x.

EAC is free.

I've used Nero6 happily for years.....It's also got a gap closing and overlap function for burning the occasional mp3.
