TATTOO YOU ‘SESSIONS’
additional volume
This is a complementary project to the already published compilation for the TATTOO YOU Sessions (see FP volume 072 to volume 076). Here you will find new versions coming from the fine analysis by BlueTurnsToGrey (BT2G) and versions which recently appeared in the Fully Finished Outtakes compilation. It also includes outtakes of the bonus tracks added in the official deluxe version.
Part I°] The original album
01a - Slave #2c (4’44) (ACT 20-11) - close to track 18 on FP 073 but with different vocals in the ‘liquor Store’ segment.
01b - Slave #2c (4’35) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,35% to be in synch with the other versions. Sound amplification, fade out a little amplified, silent segment from the end deleted.
02a - Heaven #1’ (5’06) (tape sourced) - close to track 41 on FP 075 but different mix with a better phase adjustment. Different after 2’12 with 17 seconds lost, then a different segment of about 7 seconds, before to restart identical to the DAC 104 version.
02b -Heaven #1’ (5’06) (reworked) - accelerated by +0,47%, sound amplification.
03a - Heaven #2c (5’25) (ACT 20-08) - close to track 42 on FP 075: version with real lyrics but more simple accompaniment (less wind effects…): this might be an earlier version than the one numbered #2b !
03b - Slave #2c (5’28) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,5% to be in synch with the other versions, sound amplification, channel equilibration.
04a - Worried About You 02a’ (7’31) (tape sourced) - sounds better as track 36 on FP 075 (which was coming from DAC 088 using a noise filter). Better left channel without the default at 1’47 but the channels are not so separated as in the DAC version.
04b - Worried About You 02a’ (7’34) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,68%, little phase adjustment and slight treble addition.
Part II°] The bonus from the deluxe edition
05a - Living In The Heart Of Love #1 (4’05) (DAC 096) - Nicky Hopkins on piano
05b - Living In The Heart Of Love #1 (4’08) (reworked) - drums intro taken from VGP 362 (accelerated by +0,7%), rest from DAC 096.
06a - Living In The Heart Of Love #2 (3’29) (FFO) - with vocals redone by MJ and with KR's backing vocals erased (possibly done in 1994)
06b - Living In The Heart Of Love #2 (3’30) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,24% to be in synch with the official version
Note : Living In The Heart Of Love #3 is the version from the TY deluxe edition.
07a - Fiji Jim #3 (3’43) (FFO) - without lead guitar in the intro, with additional (second) rhythm guitar and more polished vocals
07b - Fiji Jim #3 (3’45) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,24% to be in synch with the official version
Note : Fiji Jim #1 and #2 are already on FP 082 and Fiji Jim #4 (with new vocals) is the version from the TY deluxe edition.
08a - Troubles A’ Comin #2 (4’45) (FFO) - with audible vocals
08b - Troubles A’ Comin #2 (4’46) (reworked) - the channels were inverted, now they’re in the correct configuration as in the official version.
Note: Troubles A’ Comin’ #1 (with barely audible guide vocals) was misnamed « Break Away » for a long time and can be found on FP 090 as track 51.
Troubles A’ Comin #3 (with new vocals) is the version from the TY deluxe edition
While trying to make a mixed version with the official version I realized that the instrumental part of version #2 has been increased by a half-tone... but not the voice - so a mix of the 2 sources gives a very bad result!
09a - Shame Shame Shame #2 (3’52) (ACT) - closer version #1 (see FP 083) with an additional guitar
09b - Shame Shame Shame #2 (3’52) (reworked) - sound amplification, channel equilibration, accelerated by +1,1%.
10a - Drift Away#1 (3’58) (DAC 096) - Nicky Hopkins on piano, Billy Preston on organ
10b - Drift Away#1 (3’58) (reworked)
11a - Drift Away #2 (4’07) (DAC 096) - new mix with different vocals and hand clapping at 2’50
11b - Drift Away #2 (4’06) (reworked) - accelerated by +0,8%
Note: Drift Away #3 with new vocals and no hand clapping is the version from the TY deluxe edition.
12a - It’s A Lie #3 (4’22) (FFO) - shorter harmonica intro version and with additional piano
12b - It’s A Lie #3 (4’23) (reworked) - decelerated by 0,24%
Note: It's A Lie # 1 is track 072 on FP 092 and #2 is track 073. It’s A Lie #4 is the version from the TY deluxe edition.
13a - Come To The Ball #1 (3’27) (VGP 027) - Nicky Hopkins on piano; instrumental, under working title Windmill (aka Wind Call) (without slide guitar)
13b - Come To The Ball #1 (3’33) (reworked) - decelerated by -2,12%, sound amplified
14a - Come To The Ball #2 (3’31) (VGP 237) - Nicky Hopkins on piano; instrumental, with additional slide guitar, under working title Windmill
14b - Come To The Ball #2 (3’33) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,6%, sound amplified
Note: Come To The Ball #3 is the version from the TY deluxe edition (and other versions can be heard in the 1975 sessions on FP 114 tracks 033, 036 and 037)
15a - Fast Talking, Slow Walking #2 (6’35) (VGP 237) - Nicky Hopkins on piano
15a - Fast Talking, Slow Walking #2 (6’35) (reworked) - default deleted at 6’09
16a - Fast Talking, Slow Walking #3 (5’54) (FFO) - Nicky Hopkins on piano; more finished vocals and some different piano part
16b - Fast Talking, Slow Walking #3 (5’54) (reworked) - decreased of one tone to be more close to the official version
Note: Fast Talking, Slow Walking #1 is uncirculated and #4 is the version from the TY deluxe edition.
17a - Start Me Up #3’ (3’47) (ACT 20-05) - close to track 103 on FP 084 with less double tracked vocals. The fade out is also two seconds longer than on track 103.
17b - Start Me Up #3’ (3’50) (reworked) - decelerated by -0,4%
A big thank you to my usual accomplices ('nzb' and 'Stonesmuziekfan') for having checked my work and to BlueTurnsToGrey for his fine analysis and his finds: this is really a joint venture.
As usual all the infos are coming from Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database: [
