It’s one good example why NOT to let the guitarist pick the tempo. A great listen, but it’s almost a train wreck. Mick and Charlie can hardly keep up

To me it's how plays a man (Keith) who - facing a loooong prison time - thinks he might not be near a stage for "a while".
Therefore he plays his favs one last time with overjoy and abandon. Hence the sped-up tempo?

"We had enough material for the live album, but we thought this would be fun. And that we'd get a different sound."

On the live album? Yes.

With this new version with the heavy added reverb? No.

Is it me or do Jagger's vocals sound like his mouth is full of marbles or still suffering aftereffects of Novocaine from a dental visit? Otherwise great sound quality. Suppose I could do without Billy Preston's yodeling at the end of the song, too. Is he on organ and Stu piano or does he switch between the two? Sound is so rich and full in this performance. Seems like on all subsequent tours, guitars sounded thin and trebly and bass almost nonexistent which I just don't fathom...

Effects of cocaine from a dealer visit?

Jagger on cocaine in the 70s? Absolutely impossible!

The Rolling Stones - Rip This Joint, It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It)
(Live At The El Mocambo 1977) (2022) [Hi-Res 24Bit/96kHz]

'Live at the El Mocambo' marks the first official appearance of the group's two famous secret concerts at the 300-capacity Toronto club in March 1977. It features the Stones' full set from the March 5 show, plus three bonus tracks from the March 4 gig. The gigs became reality after the El Mocambo was identified as the potential home for a secret booking. A radio contest was organised in which the prize was tickets to see Canadian rock heroes April Wine, supported by an unknown band called the Cockroaches. Guess who they turned out to be... On the nights, naturally, April Wine were themselves the opening act, and so it was that the Stones rolled back the years to the exhilarating club incarnation of their early years.

Yup. For me, I feel the 75 versions are also to fast. In 72 it was faster than the studio version but at least Mick could sing all the lyrics and Taylor could still do his his thing in between the verses
