To celebrate Brian Jones' birthday.

The Original Six were pretty darn amazing.

Thank you very much!

This does not sound like the BBC nor Chess versions!
Is this a genuine alternate take?

If this means another 3cd set of unreleased material is forthcoming, this time from the 60’s, I believe Hell must have just froze over, and pigs are now flying!

First I wasn't sure, if it's really a Stones track. MJ sounds very young, like he did in 62/63. Thanks again for this fantastic version.

It sounds like some overdubs were done on this mix . I'm just guessing , i could be wrong . Anyway i did enjoy it and it is Mick singing . Thank You for posting this and sharing it with us .

Is this a genuine alternate take?

It has neither the low-fi sound of the BBC recording nor the great stereo sound of Chess. It has an additional piano and MJ sings the verses differently (the "I'm too young to die"-line already mid-song instead of ending with it.). Might come from Regent Sound May 1964 although I'm not sure.

Yeah, it does not have the Chess sound imo and Regent Sound is far more likely. Possibly one from Andrew's private collection... Makes one wonder what more cool & previously undocumented stuff like this is buried out there!

Thinking about it and the fact that two different studio versions exist, it's well possible it was cut around the time they did the first version of Time Is On My Side (June 1964), and re-recorded both tunes at Chess.

But while both versions of TIOMS were released, both versions of MMITB stay unreleased to this very day.

This "find"...after all these years....is a great recording. Just listen to the young Charlie, Stu and Brian go for it. Wow !

But it also raises interesting questions.

According to Nico's database, there are only two entries for "Down In The Bottom" by the original Stones ;

25th May 1964 BBC : Live recording for radio in BBC studio

11th June 1964 Chess : Studio recording.

But amongst the 80 odd songs (in Nico's database) known to have been in their reportoire for gigs in 1963 is "Down In The Bottom".

This means the Stones could have pulled this out of the bag and played it anytime during 1963 and into June 1964 (after June 1964 their shows and studio recording sesssions are much better documented).

This new found version posted by Glimmerman could therefore have been recorded anytime between early 1963 and June 1964...........could it even be one of the Luxemburg recordings !!!!!!

I wonder what this 60th anniversary year will bring ???
