Is "It Should Be You" actually performed by the
Rolling Stones or were there session musicians involved?

What is the story of these early demos?

Here are some quotes from YouTube:

"This was one of the first things that Mick & Keith ever "wrote." I put the
word "wrote" in quotes, because the melody is pretty much just a reworking of
the old standard, "One Mint Julep." It was recorded and released as a single by
George Bean in December of 1963, with another early Jagger & Richards
composition, "Will You Be My Lover Tonight?" on the flipside. It did not chart."

There's a lot of guitar work (3:40) that sounds like Keith but I'm no expert.

Producer: Andrew Oldham.

Andrew Oldham obviously thought that George Bean had some potential having
produced his first single "Secret Love" b/w "Lonely Weekends" (Decca F 11762)
in late 1963, quite possibly with some Stones involvement in the recording.

This single was the first Jagger-Richard 'A' and 'B' side to be released, but,
unfortunately, nobody bought it!

Oldham also recorded another Jagger-Richard song with Bean, "My Only Girl",
which was never released but was picked up by Gene Pitney and retitled "That
Girl Belongs To Yesterday".

After another flop single, "A Sad Story" b/w "Er-Um-Er" (Decca F 11922) also
produced by Oldham, Bean, with his imaginatively named band "The Runners",
moved to British CBS for one single and later appeared in the movie "Privilege"
starring Paul Jones (of Manfred Mann), where he sang "Onward Christian
Soldiers" and "Jerusalem". He subsequently formed the group Trifle, which was
managed by Robert Stigwood with future Strawbs member Rod Coombes in the
lineup.

The Stones' versions of these songs have never been officially released but
bootleg recordings are available although, in the case of "Will You Be My Lover
Tonight", only as a fragment as part of a medley.

There are people who contribute to this forum (IORR) who are experts. When it comes to knowing a lot about guitar stuff, I'm certainly no expert. I come to you all for help and we share the same interests.

Even if you are no expert, would you please listen to these two tracks above and tell us, DO YOU THINK "It Should Be You" has the Rolling Stones as the band playing the music? To me, it sounds like the Stones rerecorded "It Should Be You" and George Bean is singing. If you listen to the guitar licks and other lead guitar, does the music sound like this song is the Rolling Stones for sure. Does it sound like George Bean's "It Should Be You" could have come off of an early Rolling Stones album? Is that Keith's guitar work. I'm no expert and know nothing about guitars/guitar work but I think it's the Rolling Stones doing the soundtrack. Comments are most welcome. I wish someone could confirm that it is in fact the "It Should Be You" is the Rolling Stones playing the music.

Even songs that don't have an attitude like "Walking the Dog," Jagger's delivery of the song has an attitude. Mick is convincing that Mrs Mack was broke her needle sewing while walking the dog. LOL!

The guitar work in George Bean's "It Should Be You" reminds me of "England's Newest Hit Makers." "I Just Want to Make Love to You" and "Walking the Dog" comes to mind. Don't ask me why because I don't know exactly.

My other question, I'll also ask again, is it Brian Jones playing harmonica on George Bean's "Er-Um-Er?" I think it is Brian's harmonica solo at 0:48! I feel as though I know it's Brian on harmonica. Brian played harmonica on different recordings for various groups.

George Bean wasn't cool enough to pull off (to make a success, was not cool, delivery of the vocals did not have the attitude needed) what it needed to make "Er-Um-Er" a hit. He's no Mick Jagger!

I could imagine Jagger singing "Er-Um-Er," the song would work!

The Rolling Stones worked extremely hard over the years. If anyone thinks they're just 'in it for the money is clueless. They could have retired a long time ago with plenty of money. If you look at the Rolling Stones schedule in the early years, it probably amazed you at the amount of high-quality music they produced, on top of the constant touring!

We have great resources the Rolling Stones did these demo songs. We have the recordings. We have no information on who is playing the instruments on the released George Bean recordings mentioned in this post.

If we somehow took George Bean's "It Should Be You" would we have a Rolling Stones recording? I think the music is great on George Bean's "It Should be You." What if we had the soundtrack of George Bean's "It Should Be You" and took the vocals from the Stones Demo of "It Should Be You?" Would it be the Rolling Stones performing "It Should Be You?" I think so but I'm no expert. If you prove me wrong, It's okay. I want the truth or good opinions.

The Herd was an English rock band, founded in 1965. In 1966, 16-year-old Peter Frampton joined as lead singer and guitarist. The band had three UK top twenty hits in the late 1960s, including "From the Underworld" and "I Don't Want Our Loving to Die", before Frampton left in 1968 to form Humble Pie with Steve Marriott. The band broke up shortly after, reforming briefly and unsuccessfully in 1971.

The Herd were founded in 1965 in south London and recorded three unsuccessful singles with Parlophone. In 1966 three members in succession (Terry Clark, Louis Cennamo, and Mick Underwood) quit the group[1] and the group got the line-up that made it famous. The singer, Peter Frampton, was 16 when he joined the group in 1966 and had just left school.

With his boyish photogenic looks, Frampton was dubbed

   "The Face of ’68" by teen magazine Rave.
