If it's allowed, can anybody post, or mention a link to, the Rio documentary that's on the Japanese release of A Bigger Bang - Live On Copacabana Beach?

Was it the National Geographic Special?
If it is, I have it and can upload here

I have a feeling that it is. According to a mention at [atsuy.web.fc2.com], it's 50:11 long, so if you have that ..... thanks thumbs up

Nice mention, thanks. It remains to be seen if this is definitely the one used in the recent Japanese release, but so far, it seems likely that it is.

There's an HD version of the National Geographic doco at [www.youtube.com]; but it has subtitles. Does anybody know how to wipe the subtitles?

Uh, just to complicate things, that one's only 46:58. Other examples on Dailymotion are 50:00, but lower quality and with non-English language voice overs.

Perhaps somebody can come up with the 50:00 in English. midimannz? Hope yours is.

Thanks for this information. Can you post your 55:21 NG doco here? I'm interested in comparing it with the 50-minute doco that's on Dailymotion, i.e. to see if it's essentially the same.

And, just to cover all the bases, can you tell me if the NG doco is what's on disk 4 of the box set? (Give or take a couple of minutes, of course.)

Hmmm, getting a bit more confused/uncertain about which is what. That link contains a link to [www.youtube.com], which is a nice 720p quality one, but only 47:55 long.

Can you post your 55:21 NG doco? That's another comparison I'd like to do.

Hi, the Salt Of The Earth documentary is a different one, on The Biggest Bang disc 4 (I also have this set). What's reportedly been included as the Japan "Rio Documentary" disc is the "Rio de Janeiro Documentary" that's on Biggest Bang disc 2, the difference being that on BB D2, it's just 26:10 long, but on the recent Japan disc, it's 50:11.

The NG documentary in your transfer looks like the same as the one at [www.youtube.com] (minus the end credits) which is just over 3 minutes short of the 50:11 stated for the Japan disc. It's now something of a mystery, probably only solved if comebody can come up with the Japan disc content.

It would be very nice if we could compare with the bonus version of the Japanese version spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Yes, my point exactly, I agree with you ..... the only way to clear up the uncertainty. We just need somebody to come up with it.

Credits in the Japanese version starting at 49m:43s, ending 49m:58s (of 50m:11s) - the rest are the RS & Mercury-Studio logos.

Credits in the YouTube version - [iorr.org] - starting at 47m:41s, ending 47m:56s.

The Japanese version starts directly w/o 'preview' while the YouTube version actually starts at 0:58.

Midimannz' NG-Documentary and the YouTube version looking otherwise the same like the Japanese version. Some short scenes (ca. 3 mins) were cut in the broadcasted NG version.

Cool, good stuff. Now we know what the Japanese DVD is - the NG doco plus a few minutes. thumbs up

And now, drum roll, can anybody come up with [www.youtube.com] in the same great quality but without the subtitles? Or the 50-minute Dailymotion one in better quality and English language?

Now we know what the Japanese DVD is - the NG doco plus a few minutes.

Midimannz' NG-Documentary (46m:58s incl. Credits) and [www.YouTube.com] are shortened in 6 scenes compared to the Japanese DVD:

Pos. 3:35-4:18 - loading stage-equipment
Pos. 13:25-14:07 - safety-meeting on the beach
Pos. 14:47-15:18 - mounting stage-elements
Pos. 16:38-17:03 - setting-up backstage interior
Pos. 19:14-19:44 - stage-construction on the beach
Pos. 30:04-30:30 - preparation stage-lighting

Otherwise it's exactly the same, you can watch it in 'stereo' side-by-side on the Computer-Screen. Midimannz' NG-Documentary (PAL 25 fps) and the Japanese DVD (NTSC 29.97 fps) have the same picture-quality.

I see what you mean, thanks for this detailed analysis.

I checked for just the first edit (3:35 - 4:18) at [www.dailymotion.com] and, sure enough, the extra footage is in there, and I'd say that it's the full version as per the recent Japanese DVD. Trouble is that it's poor quality - only 380p. I can in fact live best so far with [www.youtube.com]. Apart from the subs, it's in great quality (up to 1080p) and the credits run with audio all the way to fade. It's just that it's the edited version, not the full 50 minutes.

Any chance of PMing any of us with something? winking smiley

Yes, the Dailymotion-version is exactly the same as on the Japanese DVD - except Dailymotion is in French and the JP-DVD is in English with switchable Japanese subtitles.

No, unfortunately not since it's official stuff owned by Universal Music (Rolling Stones) and Disney Publishing Worldwide (National Geographic).

10-4. At least we now know the basis for the JP-DVD.

Hopefully someday it will be possible to buy online downloads of the Japan exclusive content, like the Rio documentary or the San Jose '99 bonus tracks. While it would be nice to get them, it's just not worth to pay so much extra for the deluxe box sets IMO.
