SOME GIRLS Sessions

BlueTurns2Grey did an awesome job with comparing the transfers of his tapes "taken from various 'Some Girls-tapes', collected between 1978 to 1984"with what I already had published and he found some versions that were sometimes slightly better in sound, or more complete or even different!
I decided to make two new volumes to complete the collection of titles from the “Some Girls”- sessions by integrating the novelties of the "Fully Finished Outtakes"-set.
As usual you will find here the original versions on one cd and on the other the versions that I tried to improve.
I thank Nico Zentgraf for all the informations I could find on his site [www.nzentgraf.de] and my partners in crime nzb, Jaap (“Stonesmuziekfan”) and Enrique (“Quiquestone”). These additions are the result of a joint venture with BlueTurns2Grey whom I would like to thank warmly!

“Not many fans have kept track of the Stones' numerous outtakes. Especially the studio sessions from 1977 to 1981 are difficult to keep track of, because of their many songs. PART V°] The additions from Cassettes or recent discoveries

Volume 09 :

A°) Addition from BlueTurns2Grey's tape transfers

104a - When The Whips Comes Down #2b (10’07) - close to #2 (cf. track 06 on FP 077) but with a clearer sound and a more complete outro.
104b - When The Whips Comes Down #2b (10’08) (reworked) - slight treble reduction and bass boost, channel balancing (+20% to the right), some parts amplified.

105a - Just My Imagination #2b (6’50) - same version as track 09 on FP 077 which was edited (2’50), this one had a better sound and it’s complete.
105b - Just My Imagination #2b (6’50) (reworked)

106a - Just My Imagination#3b (6’54) - same as track 10 from FP 77 but with a different stereo mix and more separated channels, fade in longer.
106b - Just My Imagination #3b (6’54) (reworked)

107a - Just My Imagination#4b (6’44) - same as track 11 from FP 077 but with a complete intro and a slightly longer outro (4 more seconds).

107b - Just My Imagination#4b (6’44) (reworked)

108a - Beast Of Burden #1 (5’46) - two guitars, longer as the FP 078 version
108b - Beast Of Burden #1 (5’46) (reworked) slighty more treble, duplicated
Note : on track 25 in the FP 78 version are 3 guitars : this version with 2 guitars must be an earlier take. The version on FP 78 must be considerated now as the version #2 ! Is also prolonged by an echo effect (dub style) which is removed on the version of FP 078.

109a - Some Girls #1a2 (5’33) - closer track 12 from FP 078 with a slightly longer intro and outro
109b - Some Girls #1a2 (5’26) (reworked) drop out from the intro patched with a segment from the #1b, speed corrected
Note : Because the tape runs with a fluctuating/variable speed (from around +2,75% in the beginning to -0,43% at the end) I had to correct the speed by segments of around 30 seconds…

110a - Tallahassee Lassie #1b (2’32) (EXR 19/20 'One Night With Tallahassee Lassie') - different intro (drums) and a better sound as the track 41 from FP 080
110a - Tallahassee Lassie #1b (2’35) (reworked) decelerated by -1%
Note : I don’t know why I did’t use this one in the first post… (I had it as a silver!)


111a - Disco Music #1b1 (5’55) - 20 sec longer intro than track 59 from FP 081
111b - Disco Music #1b1 (5’56) (reworked) - mix : intro (decelerating by -0,75%) added at the track 59.



Volume 10 :

112a - Disco Music #1b2 (5’10) - same as track 59 until 4’ then different end
112b - Disco Music #1b2 (5’10) (reworked) - slight treble reduction and bass boost, channel balancing (+5% to the left), duplicated.

113a - Everything Is Turning To Gold #2b (4’30) - sounds clearer than track 64 from FP 081.
113b - Everything Is Turning To Gold #2b (4’30) (reworked)

114a - Just Because I Told You #1b (3’39) - with slide guitar more present than on track 73 from FP 082
Channel equilibration +20% to the right, sound amplified
114b - Just Because I Told You #1b (3’39) (reworked) using a 10 seconds patch from track 73 from FP 082 from 2’56 to 3’06 (I received here another big help from BT2G)

115a - Shame Shame Shame 1b (3’52) (DAC 203) - stereo version (track 085 from FP 083 was in mono)
115b - Shame Shame Shame 1b (3’59) (reworked) I added the intro and the last second present on the track 085, duplicated
Note : When I ‘worked’ on the compilation this DAC number was not published !

116a - Hang Fire #3b (6’44) - with a complete intro and not faded in as on track 099 from FP 084
116b - Hang Fire #3b (6’47) (reworked) duplicated and speed corrected
Note : Because the tape runs with a fluctuating/variablespeed (from around -0,5% to +0,1% at the end) I had to correct the speed by segments of around 30 seconds…

B°) Addition from « Fully Finished Outtakes»

Sessions : 10th October - 29th November and 6th - 15th December1977: Boulogne Billancourt (near Paris), France, Pathé Marconi Studios. Producer: The Glimmer Twins.
Sound engineer: Chris Kimsey. Additional musicians: Ian McLagan/Sugar Blue [James Whiting] (harm)/Mel Collins (sax)…
To be honest my attempts to rework the versions of 'Fully Finished' are not very interesting so, with exception of the first track, I propose here mixes with the previous known version.
Note : this mixes are more interesting while listening to them with headphones - so do me a favour and try them this way !

117a - Every Time I Break Her Heart (7’08) - sounds in parts like ‘Far Away Eyes’, but uses a different vocal melody and totally different lyrics
117b - Every Time I Break Her Heart (7’08) (reworked)

118a - Fiji Jim #3 (3’43) - without lead guitar in the intro, with additional (second) rhythm guitar and more polished vocals
118b - Fiji Jim (3’44) (mix) - left channel FF version, right chanel track 66 from FP 082 (accelerated by 0,3%)

119a - Never Make You Cry #3 (4’32) - shorter as #2, with more developed vocals/lyrics
119b - Never Make You Cry (4’32) (mix) - left channel FF version, right chanel track 23 FP 083 (accelerated by 0,8%)

120a - You Win Again #2 (3’25) - a Hank Williams song, new mix, with redone vocals
120b - You Win Again (3’25) (mix) - left channel FF version, right chanel track 47 from FP 080 (decelerated by -0,27%)
