This is what JohnnyDrugBeard told me about it
"The slight distortion is present on the master tape and is not a mastering error. There is even more distortion in the two Goats Head Soup roughs. Apparently this stuff was printed to tape very hot. It was digitally mastered very carefully, but it's good that you have a discerning ear."
