POST: The DIRTY WORK Sessions series - Vol 01 (FP 094)

A big thanks to Quiquestone who spent lots of time checking my texts and covers!

DIRTY WORK sessions
Presentation, objectives and thanks:
After “Undercover”, “Tattoo You”, “Some Girls” and “Emotional Rescue” here you’ll find the “Dirty Work”-sessions.
The original idea was to collect all circulating versions of the tracks used for “Dirty Work” and the sessions from this era (1985).
As for the previous project I did two versions: one with the untouched tracks and another one with my DIY... always with the idea in mind that you can keep only what you prefer. For this compilation I left out all the versions that were used for official releases.

As usual I decided to post this project in volumes of two CDs: the first CD of each volume containing the untouched versions and the second CD my DIY.
Because the poor quality of the recordings I decided to separate the “acoustic demos” and the music “taped through the window” in two different parts (one as intro, the other as outro).
I used Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database a lot: [www.nzentgraf.de] of which I tried to respect the chronology and the order of the proposed versions. It was not always easy to spot the different versions; the result is not perfect and surely may be criticized. It's possible that I made (I certainly did!) mistakes... I thank you in advance for helping me to find and correct them. Don’t forget that all this is done for pleasure and passion...
I also used the Rolling Stones Bootleg Database: [www.dbboots.com]
I thank them warmly and also my partners in crime Enrique, Jaap and nzb, for their advice and revisions!

Notes:
- I do a big mistake and lost all my DIY infos for volumes 2 to 8… I’m so sorry but I cannot tell you now the DIY I've done to these tracks!
- Concerning the speed: I only checked and corrected the speed for the tracks which circulate as official releases. Of course it’s possible that the speed of the recordings was changed in the post production!

DIRTY WORK sessions
PART I: The acoustic Sessions
Volume 1:
15th January - 28th February 1985: Boulogne-Billancourt (near Paris), France
Due to the poor quality of these demos, I decided to place these apart from the other sessions

01 – BABY YOU’RE TOO MUCH
01a - Baby You’re Too Much #1 (1’39) (HD)
01b - Baby You’re Too Much #1 (1’37) (reworked - FP 049) sound amplified, some noises deleted
Note: Baby You’re Too Much #2 and #3 see Part III
02 – SOMETHING I WANT
02a - Something I Want #2 (14’38) (HD) - a/k/a «What Am I Gonna Do With Your Love» and «Your Love»
02b - Something I Want #2 (14’06) (reworked - FP 049) decelerated by -3,731%, using the GW version as reference (better correction but incomplete), channels duplicated, some defects deleted in particuliar at 5’18 and 10’30
Notes:
Something I Want #1 is from a 1982 Undercover session (cf. FP 066)
Something I Want #3 & #4 see Part III

03 – BESIDE YOU
03a - Beside You #1 (3’42) (DAC 112) - a/k/a «I Can’t See Nobody» embryonic version
03a - Beside You #1 (3’17) (reworked) some silent parts deleted and some music parts amplified
Note: Beside You #2 see Part III

04 – BROKEN HEARTS FOR ME AND YOU
04a - Broken Hearts For Me and You (3’31) (HD)
04b - Broken Hearts For Me and You (3’39) (reworked) decelerated by -3,863%, minor noise reduction, some little defects deleted

05 – DON’T BE CRUEL
05a - Don’t Be Cruel (4’35) (WG) - an Otis Blackwell and Elvis Presley song
05b - Don’t Be Cruel (4’34) (reworked) minor noise reduction, sound amplified

06 – ELIZA UPCHINK
06a - Eliza Upchink #3 (5’08) (WG) - a/k/a «Back On the Streets Again»
06b - Eliza Upchink #3 (5’08) (reworked) minor noise reduction, sound amplified
Note: Eliza Upchink #1 and #2 are from a 1982 Undercover session (cf. FP 063)

07 – THIRTY NINE AND HOLDING
07a - Thirty Nine And Holding (6’11) (WG) - a Jerry Foster and Wilburn Steven Rice song
07b - Thirty Nine And Holding (6’11) (reworked) minor noise reduction, sound amplified

08a - One Hit #1 (8’16) (WG)
08b - One Hit #1 (8’07) (reworked) lots of defects deleted, minor noise reduction and sound amplified
Notes:
My favorite from these sessions: we can feel the guys' enthusiasm
For the other versions see Part III and IV

09 - UNKNOWN JAMS*
09a - Unknown Jams (7’18) (WG) - see note 2 below
09b - Unknown Jams (7’17) (reworked) minor noise reduction, sound amplification
Note: perhaps it corresponds to “Unknown vocal track - maybe an abandoned bridge-idea for One Hit”?

BONUS TRACK #1 – ALL SHOOK UP (1)
BT #1a: - All Shook Up (1’13) (nzb) - an Otis Blackwell and Elvis Presley song, KR on vocals
BT #1b: - All Shook Up (1’12) (reworked), channel rebalanced, minor noise reduction, sound amplified

BONUS TRACK #2 – ARE YOU LONELY FOR ME BABY (1)
BT #2a: 11a - Are You Lonely For Me Baby (13’06) (nzb) - a Bert Berns song, KR & MJ on vocals
BT #2b: 11b - Are You Lonely For Me Baby (12’28) (reworked) minor noise reduction, sound amplified, accelerated by +5%, little defect deleted at 8’13
Notes:
(1) These two tracks were sent recently by nzb and have not been widely circulating: a great find to complete this collection!
The texts and the covers were already finished, so I called them bonus tracks #1 and #2 because I didn’t want to rename all the other tracks and remake all the covers.

(2) The following tracks are on Part IV (‘Taped through the window’)
- Breakin' - KR on vocals; various takes
- These Arms Of Mine (Allen Toussaint)
- Key To the Highway (William Broonzy/Charles Segar) - KR on vocals; various takes
- Instrumental rock/blues jam

(3) I didn’t keep the «Teddy Bear» and «Don’t Be Cruel» versions that circulate because, IMHO, they’re from KR sessions (cf. Learning The Game, Cabo San Lucas sessions…)
