Post: The lost TOTP tracks from April 22nd, 1971

In March 1971, the Stones shot 3 videos for the Top Of The Pops (BBC-TV) show, Brown Sugar, Wild Horses and Bitch. All tracks with live vocals on prepared backing tracks. Brown Sugar was aired on April 15th and also as a video in front of live guests in the german tv show 'Disco 71'. A complete version in excellent sound quality can be found as a bonus on the Marquee Club DVD 'From The Vault'.

On April 22nd another Top Of The Pops show was aired, this time featuring Wild Horses and Bitch. Nearly every show has been re-broadcasted a few times by bbc and zdf-neo or 3-Sat tv. Not so this one. This show seems to be lost. All whats left, is a very poor audio track of both songs. They can be found on youtube in terrible sound quality for excample.

In autumn 2020 I found a tape from the late 70ies with lots of bbc stuff. I couldn't believe, that both missed tracks were included. It's not in excellent sound quality, but a lot better than everything I've heard before. I would say it's a very good sound quality, very well listenable.

So here's my little gem, everything prepared for a 3-track cd:

1. Brown Sugar, excellent mono (From Disco '71, the same version as on TOTP, but with live audience from zdf-tv. The song was presented in partnership with TOTP. The TOTP version has been aired a thousand times on MTV and can also be found on the "Marquee Club" DVD. So I preferred the "Disco 71" version)

2. Bitch, very good mono (Very first notes fixed)

3. Wild Horses, very good mono (Wonderful backing track, different to the Sticky Fingers version)

Enjoy these versions and feel free to put in the Stones Vault

Thanks for your info. I synchronized Bitch and Wild Horses to the lenghth of the Sticky Fingers versions. Track length should be correct now. Here are the speed corrected files and a new info, if you like:

BlueTurns2Grey: you mention you found a tape of various BBC stuff - can you give any details of that? Maybe there are some 'other' TOTP shows that are considered lost...

Oh, there is nothing really special on it and not everything is labled correctly. The tape includes the 1967 London Palladium show in well known poor quality, Saturday Club 64 with Meet Me In The Bottom, Teen Time Radio with Brian Jones reading a fan's letter, Ready Steady Go with I Am Waiting and a Hyde Park Interview that must be broadcasted in the early 70ies. None of it in excellent quality. It was circulating long before Bill Wyman presented a BBC show with radio tracks from the 60ies.

Fantastic BlueTurns2Grey - I wasn't paying attention and nearly missed your post. This is one of the Holy Grails of lost recordings. Much better quality than the poor recording circulating. An early Xmas present - thankyou.

Brian reading a fan letter sounds new.
It's from 1965?
