CD is pressed at Toshiba/EMI plant (est. 1984)
Matrix: CP35-3032-3 1A1, clear plastic hub w/o imprint.
CD play side: VG+. One visible radial scratch of about 1 cm in length outside data area near the edge of the CD. A few small spots/scuffs visible only under strong lamp. Plays w/o skips, rips 100% accurate.
CD label side: EX




Booklet cover: VG+ to EX
Booklet inside: EX, no stains, no tears, no marks. Cupper staples.
Back cover: VG+, slight sunburn to one spine
Booklet and back cover are of the 2nd type with DIGITAL MASTERING spelled correctly.

Comes in original smooth sided Patent Pended jewel case and with original Patent Pended ‘12 spokes on hub’ tray with one Compact Disc logo in the upper right corner. Jewel case has moderate shelf wear, no cracks.

Collector’s info for those who plan to start discussion ‘recent Japanese SHM CD is cheaper’ (I shall not participate in that discussion).

Tattoo You [Toshiba/EMI CP35-3032] is the very 1st CD of the Rolling Stones in the world ever. It belongs to so called ‘1st generation’ CDs. This CD was on the market in Japan only and was withdrawn in 1985 (after the deal with CBS was signed). The first pressing was made est. in July 1983 at CBS/Sony plant.
The CD that is up for sale is from 1984. It was pressed at Toshiba/EMI plant, but it is digital clone to the 1st CBS/Sony pressing. Digital content is flat transfer of the master tape that was used for LP production in Japan. No mastering tricks whatsoever, no pre-emphasis. You hear exactly what was on the master tape.

Also, it belongs to CDs with so called 'black triangle' label that is highly prized among collectors of 'rare and early CDs'. In the case of the Rolling Stones there are only 3 CDs with 'black triangle label' - Tattoo You [CP35-3032] (in press 1983-1985), Undercover [CP35-3087] (in press 1984-1985), Rewind (UK track listing) [CP35-5021] (in press 1985). All were issued in limited quantities and sold in Japan only.

It is not clear how many CDs were pressed. I guess - not too many even for early 80’s. Only 4 matrix variants (combinations of glass master/stampler) are known for Tattoo You [CP35-3032]: two for CBS/Sony plant (1983-1984) and two for Toshiba/EMI (1984-1985).
Mind that for its sister The Beatles - Abbey Road [CP35-3016] (in press est. May 1983 – est. July 1985) 10 matrix variants exist (five for CBS/Sony and five for Toshiba/EMI). I.e. the total number of The Beatles - Abbey Road [CP35-3016] copies pressed at least double as of The Rolling Stones – Tattoo You [CP35-3032]. Do your homework and check the ebay prices for The Beatles - Abbey Road [CP35-3016], come back and say that the CD that is up for sale is overpriced.
