Are their any bootleg's of unreleased material / alternate versions from the BTB Sessions?
Posted by: IanBillen ()

I liked Bridges to Babylon ... good album (wasn't of my very favorites but a good album none the less). Interesting with some nifty production. A much colder .. personal ... gloomier type of release as opposed to their previous album (Voodoo Lounge).

I was wondering if there is / was a CD release or downloads available of any material that is of rough tracks, completely unreleased tracks, or alternate versions from these sessions?

Thanks.

Doesn't look like. [StonesSessions.com] lists only 3 unreleased full Tracks (Baby, You're Too Much / Precious Lips / Young Love). And [dbboots.com] lists no Studio-Bootlegs for 1996/97 at all.

You've got those two remix bootleg cd's, but that are not genuine real outtakes/mixes, but more or less fan made.

So far nothing from the BTB sessions have circulated. They include these unreleased tracks (most unverified):

Baby, You're Too Much (First worked on during the sessions for DIRTY WORK and again for VOODOO LOUNGE)
Don't Apologize
Ever Changing World (Originally going to be a Japanese B-Side)
Feeling Now
High Or Low (Keith worked on this track with Sheryl Crow in 2001-02)
I'm Cured
Precious Lips
Smooth Stuff
Where'd You Hide My Blues

And most of them don't even have a runtime.

That brings back bad memories of several of us getting ripped off by Dutch thief Hans Mulders who claimed he had a CD of outtakes around September 1997. Not sure where he advertized these tapes, possibly on the UC list ? I suppose we should have known better but that was just after the massive VL Brew/Stew sets so it seemed plausible. Besides there was a guy who posted regularly on a forum (UC list ?) who claimed to be a sound engineer who said he'd heard tapes from these sessions.

Anyway Hans Mulders ripped us off for about $100...what a POS. I'm not sure anyone got money back but Hendrik was very helpful in providing forms to file a complaint in Holland.

Hard to imagine they would consider anything bad enough to leave off.

Thanks for the info folks. There is not much at all surrounding these sessions

Just wanted to check it out. I will look into the tracks I have not heard of in the responses above.

Again ... many thanks.

Smooth 180 was a song recorded during the 2002 sessions. Although they could be the same song.

James Karnbach - AFAIK that's the only source for the B2B sessions although some stuff might have been mentioned in promo interviews at the time, maybe by Rob Fraboni too on song he'd worked on with Keith (yes all the details about that on IORR [iorr.org]) Oh and our very own BV had mentioned "Every Changing World" as a b-side.

Nope it was a complete rip-off, that Hans Mulders character did not send anything to anyone. He could have at least burnt some CDRs with the B2B remixes or something.

No idea actually. I copied it over from another thread talking about some unreleased BTB songs.

Whoa - gotta mention this - the plural of bootleg is " bootlegs ", not " bootleg's". Possessives have an apostrophe before the "s", but plurals don't.

By contrast , note, correctly, absence of an apostrophe in the plurals "versions'" and "Sessions" in the thread title. QED.

That's ABB 2005, not the wanted Bridges to Babylon 1996/7.

Ok, send me $100 and you're in spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Seriously though, I think I know of a few IORR members in the circles and it's as close to a secret club as you can get. Very few mention if they have things, lest a swarm of us plebians begin begging for material. I say this with nothing but love and appreciation and admiration for them, mind you!

No we have to face the fact that most of us will die before this stuff is released. Being a Stones fan forces you to deal with heavy issues like the brievety of life and one's own mortality. grinning smiley

Yeah, there aren't too many reasons to be optimistic unfortunately, when you look at the recent leaks they were "accidents" and did not come from the "collector's circles", going from memory :
- The Collins tapes were from an estate sale on eBay a few years ago
- The JEMs 1977/1985 tapes : these are from cassettes that were "found". Could they be the missing tapes in the Collins archive ?
- The Steel Wheels tapes came from the widow of a roadie (Chuch Magee I think) who passed the first cassette on to a friend who mentioned it on the RocksOff forum in 2006 asking for help on what to do with it. The second one appeared directly on boots so was probably bought by one of the labels.
- The ABB alternates were sourced from a guy who was at the NY studios where the album was/had been being mixed, can't remember if he was also recording or doing some computer maintenance, and he copied the MP3s.
- That leaves the 2002 sessions, not sure how these got out ?
