Atlantic City '89 is of course out this week, at last. If they can do that one officially, then there's hope somewhere that El Mocambo '77 will come out officially as well. The only question is when.

The only question is when.

If the Covid lasts long enough and prevents the band from touring, Mick will have to "put another log in the fireplace" = release some more stuff to keep the media focused on the band.

Therefore grinning smiley a 1976 Paris DVD with a bonus CD of Mocambo cuts might be suitable.

El Mocambo (35th Anniversary Edition) (Captain Acid Remaster 2012) [APCD 018]
Upped to hungercity by Captain Acid
[we.tl]

Hi Stones fanatics,

it has taken a while for this one to be finished.

El Mocambo gig is a sort of a holy grail for me, and i wanted to make it as perfect as i can, and so did Mr. D
First of all we all have to thank "Stewed & Keefed"for sharing this tape. The tape itself sounded much better than any previous version of this gig. Much closer to the master tape.

And just to go back in time and remember how important moment in The Stones history this was.
Keith was arrested for heroin possession, and have just been released from jail to play those gigs.
They have played 2 gigs (4th and 5th March 1977). After that, everybody had run away from Canada, leaving Keith alone with Ian Stewart. And some 10 days later Keith would record those beautiful piano tracks in the studio (Stone Alone).

Let`s go back to the tape. The biggest problem was that it was too muddy or bassy,if you want it.
The first thing that i have fixed was the phase issue (azimuth misalignment). Than i did pitch correction (it was a bit too slow) and level correction.
In the end i did the EQ. And i had to do a different EQ for the left channel, it was much more mud there,than on the right channel.
I have also manually De-clicked 3 tracks from acetate and remastered them.
( i have been doing it for days, literary hundreds of clicks )

"Let`s Spend The Night Together" was not complete on this tape, so i have completed it from the track from DAC`s Sexual Healing CD (remastered by me).

"Crazy Mama" was also cut on all versions, and i wanted to complete it somehow. But the problem was that "Crazy Mama" was only performed live at El Mocambo, until `97. So what can a poor boy do?..........except to use the version from Woodstock Rehearsals (again my remaster)! And so i did, i have made the Frankenstein !!!

In the end i have decided to include "Crazy Mama" completed in a separate folder. In the same folder you`ll find "Route 66" from this new tape, also remastered by me. You see i did not want to include any song twice, so i have used my remaster of acetate for "Route 66".
I know that i shall use "Crazy Mama" completed for my personal CD, it`s a much better listening experience, that way. But because of the purists, i am not gonna include it in the album version.
Another silly thing, that happen in "Crazy Mama" completed, is that after the cut it`s Ian McLagan on piano instead of Billy Preston! But it works, somehow.So if you want a completed song, just put it instead of a cut one in the album version (it is propperly tagged for that. And so is "Route 66"- new tape version).

"Mannish Boy" was taken from the first U.S. vinyl pressing of LYL (remastered by me)

I have taken the band introduction from Idol Mind version and remastered it and De-clicked it, a bit.

No one knows for sure what was the song order in concert. I have consulted Zentgraf site for a closest version of the track list and made the new track order.

I also wanna thank to some friends that have helped with their expertise : Munichhilton, Falo, Igemo75

And from now on, we have a permanent new member in the Acid Project Team.
Ladies and gentleman, his name is Erik Snow....yeah!!!...in the role of the expert consultant, or :"CONSIGLIERE"....yeah!!!......(imagine The Muppet Show introductions)

Artwork is another real beauty by Mr. D
For this one, we have the complete booklet and luxury cover !!! Because this is the 35th Anniversary Edition !!!

Enjoy

Seeder's comments:

The legendary El Mocambo recordings from 1977. Too bad there's not more material circulating from these gigs. Fantastic performance, IMO.
Tracks 8-10 are taken from an acetate, and is the best part of this boot. Jimmy Page once mentioned Dance Little Sister from this bootleg in an interview... something about "you can forgive Keith Richards for anything when you listen to Dance Little Sister from El Mocambo". But it's actually Ronnie Wood who plays the coolest licks on that one.

Artwork included.

El Mocambo '77 [VGP-005] (2nd edition) + A Stone In My Shoe [VGP-368] (Reworked 10 tracks)
Upped to hungercity by midnrambler
[we.tl]

ROLLING STONES
Toronto, El Mocambo Tavern, March 4+5, 1977
All available tracks in most likely concert order & no repeatet tracks.

Setlists according to www.nzentgraf.de:

1977-03-04: Toronto, Canada, El Mocambo Tavern
(this setlist is probably not complete):

01 Route 66
02 Honky Tonk Women
03 Hand Of Fate
04 Fool To Cry
05 Crazy Mama
06 Crackin’ Up
07 Around And Around
08 Melody
09 Star Star
10 Worried About You
11 Let’s Spend The Night Together
12 Band introduction
13 Little Red Rooster
14 Luxury
15 Brown Sugar
16 Jumping Jack Flash

1977-03-05: Toronto, Canada, El Mocambo Tavern:

01 Honky Tonk Women
02 All Down The Line
03 Hand Of Fate
04 Route 66
05 Fool To Cry
06 Crazy Mama
07 Mannish Boy
08 Crackin’ Up
09 Dance Little Sister
10 Around And Around
11 Tumbling Dice
12 Happy
13 Hot Stuff
14 Star Star
15 Worried About You
16 Let’s Spend The Night Together
17 Worried Life Blues
18 It’s Only Rock’n Roll
19 Rip This Joint
20 Band introduction
21 Little Red Rooster
22 Luxury
23 Brown Sugar
24 Jumping Jack Flash

Now, when we remove all tracks that are not available, we get these partial setlists of available tracks. However nobody knows which track comes from which show.

1977-03-04: Toronto, Canada, El Mocambo Tavern:

01 Route 66
02 Hand Of Fate
03 Crackin’ Up
04 Around And Around
05 Worried About You
06 Let’s Spend The Night Together
07 Band introduction
08 Little Red Rooster

1977-03-05: Toronto, Canada, El Mocambo Tavern:

01 Hand Of Fate
02 Route 66
03 Mannish Boy
04 Crackin’ Up
05 Dance Little Sister
06 Around And Around
07 Worried About You
08 Let’s Spend The Night Together
09 Band introduction
10 Little Red Rooster

Now we see that the lists look quite similar and the list from the 2nd day contains all the available tracks. So I thought putting all the tracks together in this order would make a good El Mocambo disc without repeating tracks two or even three times.

So here is what I did:

01 Hand Of Fate -> VGP 005
02 Route 66 -> VGP 005 (acetate track) + VGP 368 (matrix)
03 Mannish Boy -> LYL resp. VGP-005
04 Crackin’ Up -> VGP 368
05 Dance Little Sister -> VGP 005
06 Around And Around -> LYL
07 Worried About You -> VGP 005
08 Let’s Spend The Night Together -> VGP-368
09 Band introduction -> LYL resp. VGP-005
10 Little Red Rooster -> VGP 005 + VGP 368 (matrix)

Sources:

- VGP-005 (2nd edition) El Mocambo 77
- VGP-368 A Stone In My Shoe (4 bonus tracks on CD2)

Mastered with Adobe Audition 3

Of course the sound quality varies from very good mono to excellent stereo, but that's how it is!

No artwork from me, sorry.

PS: Unfortunately I only have the 2nd edition of VGP-005. It is said that its sound quality is not as good as the orinal vinyl LP of the same title. If somebody could provide a vinyl rip I could try to do this job again with the upgraded tracks.

The Club Gig
Raid Masters (RAID CD 910710)
Vgs - SBD/STU

Live at El Mocambo Club, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
March 4th & 5th, 1977.

Except track 9, recorded at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York
May 19, 1978

lineage : silver>ripit>flac>torrent

Tracklist:

1 Dance Little Sister
2 Little Red Rooster
3 Around And Around
4 Hand of Fate
5 Route 66
6 Worried About You
7 Crackin' Up
8 Let's Spent The Night Together
9 @#$%& Blues *

* @#$%& blues is taken from the woodstock tapes. I guess they put it on the cd to fill it.

Info:

Copy of the bootleg LP El Mocambo '77 (RS-377) incl. crackles. Songs in different order and mostly incomplete (faded in and out). Plus the also incomplete @#$%& Blues from the Woodstock rehearsals 1978. See El Mocambo '77 (RS-377/VGP 005) for an excellent release of this show. Available with letterings on back in red and in black. [iorr.org]

Notes: "Small Club Gig" has more tracks from "El Mocambo". It even has CS Blues live. The quality isn't great, but the document is interesting. But it needs some speed correction. It runs a touch fast.

artwork here :

razorback notes:

"Crazy Mama" only runs a few seconds on the original tape. VGP put it on its release. Italian bootleggers didn't. That's the reason why it doesn't appear on this CD.

I Have El Mocambo 77 and Track 7 Crazy Mama is incomplete.
As far as I know, there's no complete track of Crazy Mama. I myself do have the same incomplete version.

And another one:

El Mocambo 1977 [S&K Tape Source] (munichhilton)

This is a transfer of a low generation cassette tape that was sent to me by S&K
Its much better sound than both the recent El Mocambo releases [DAC and IMP] and all the previous LPs and VGPs and crap.
This is the best sounding tape to surface of these performances.

This has much more warmth and depth to it plus wide wide stereo sound on all tracks.
The acetate transfers are the best heard yet. More complete and missing the hiss of all the circulating high generation transfers. This is finally a true Stereo El Mo.
I checked for speed correction against Love You Live and it didn't need it.
I separated the tracks in Soundforge. I fixed SBEs and converted to FLAC in TLH.

"Worried About You" is a touch overloaded at the beginning but evens out.
"Crazy Mama" is nearly complete at over 3 minutes long. I believe that makes this the longest version now in circulation.

I have included the raw digital transfer here.

All thanks for this really great find goes to the tape owner S&K who was happy to share with all Stones fans.
Didn't even know he had such a rarity.

CR02 Tape > JVC Deck > Sony PCM M10 > Soundforge 10Pro > TLH > You

I think this upgrade of mine should also be here, i think this one is the best one so far. It`s 2020 upgrade of my previous remaster.
