Hi Stones fanatics,
it has taken a while for this one to be finished.
El Mocambo gig is a sort of a holy grail for me, and i wanted to make it as perfect as i can, and so did Mr. D
First of all we all have to thank "Stewed & Keefed"for sharing this tape. The tape itself sounded much better than any previous version of this gig. Much closer to the master tape.
And just to go back in time and remember how important moment in The Stones history this was.
Keith was arrested for heroin possession, and have just been released from jail to play those gigs.
They have played 2 gigs (4th and 5th March 1977). After that, everybody had run away from Canada, leaving Keith alone with Ian Stewart. And some 10 days later Keith would record those beautiful piano tracks in the studio (Stone Alone).
Let`s go back to the tape. The biggest problem was that it was too muddy or bassy,if you want it.
The first thing that i have fixed was the phase issue (azimuth misalignment). Than i did pitch correction (it was a bit too slow) and level correction.
In the end i did the EQ. And i had to do a different EQ for the left channel, it was much more mud there, than on the right channel.
I have also manually De-clicked 3 tracks from acetate and remastered them.
( i have been doing it for days, literary hundreds of clicks )
"Let`s Spend The Night Together" was not complete on this tape, so i have completed it from the track from DAC`s Sexual Healing CD (remastered by me).
"Crazy Mama" was also cut on all versions, and i wanted to complete it somehow. But the problem was that "Crazy Mama" was only performed live at El Mocambo, until `97. So what can a poor boy do?..........except to use the version from Woodstock Rehearsals (again my remaster)! And so i did, i have made the Frankenstein !!!
In the end i have decided to include "Crazy Mama" completed in a separate folder. In the same folder you`ll find "Route 66" from this new tape, also remastered by me. You see i did not want to include any song twice, so i have used my remaster of acetate for "Route 66".
I know that i shall use "Crazy Mama" completed for my personal CD, it`s a much better listening experience, that way. But because of the purists, i am not gonna include it in the album version.
Another silly thing, that happen in "Crazy Mama" completed, is that after the cut it`s Ian McLagan on piano instead of Billy Preston! But it works, somehow. So if you want a completed song, just put it instead of a cut one in the album version (it is propperly tagged for that. And so is "Route 66"- new tape version).
"Mannish Boy" was taken from the first U.S. vinyl pressing of LYL (remastered by me)
I have taken the band introduction from Idol Mind version and remastered it and De-clicked it, a bit.
No one knows for sure what was the song order in concert. I have consulted Zentgraf site for a closest version of the track list and made the new track order.
I also wanna thank to some friends that have helped with their expertise : Munichhilton, Falo, Igemo75
And from now on, we have a permanent new member in the Acid Project Team.
Ladies and gentleman, his name is Erik Snow....yeah!!!...in the role of the expert consultant, or :"CONSIGLIERE"....yeah!!!......(imagine The Muppet Show introductions)
Artwork is another real beauty by Mr. D
For this one, we have the complete booklet and luxury cover !!! Because this is the 35th Anniversary Edition !!!
Enjoy
