Post: There are, but seven 'Pleas'

August 27th, 1978 was 'Jimmy Reed Day' in the RCA Studios in Los Angeles.

Four 'My First Plea' versions have been circulating, as far as I know. I found two 'new' versions, when I compared my old tapes with uploads like rskinnos box 12 (posted here on iorr) and some older cd's, like 'one night with tallahasse lassie'.

The following infos of the 4 known tracks are taken from Nico's 'Complete Works' website.
[www.nzentgraf.de] :

- Jimmy Reed Jam -instrumental blues jam
- My First Plea I (Jimmy Reed) -take 13, 4.14
- My First Plea II (Jimmy Reed) -take 15, 4.53
- My First Plea III (Jimmy Reed) -take 32, 5.33 (All versions i know, are 5.20)
- My First Plea IV (Jimmy Reed) -take 33, 3.51

The new versions are close to number I and II, KR vocals and the length of both tracks are absolutely identical, but the piano parts are diffrent. The quality is as good as a tape can be, imo. I really don't know, which take numbers are correct, but I think I'm close to reality with my following thoughts:

My First Plea #1 [Blue Tape Transfer]
This version is very close to #2, but has no piano at the very first seconds, the regular piano part starts later, from 0:52 onwards. I think it's a take pre to number 13.

My First Plea #2 [ONWTHL]
This version is take 13, known as 'My First Plea I' with piano in the very first seconds, the regular piano starts earlier than on #1, continously from 0.21 onwards.

My First Plea #3 [Blue Tape Transfer]
This version is very close to #4, but has no 'honky tonk' piano part from 1.51 to 2.10. It might be take 14.

My First Plea #4 [ONWTHL]
This version is take 15, known as 'My First Plea II' and has a 'honky tonk' piano part from 1.51 to 2.10

My First Plea #5 [ONWTHL]
This version is take 32, known as 'My First Plea III'

My First Plea #6 [BOX 12, dehissed]
This version is take 33, known as 'My First Plea IV'

Jimmy Reed Jam #7 (instrumental) [ONWTHL]
This jam might have been the inspiration to do all the other versions of 'My First Plea'. I fixed three dropouts.

Enjoy 7 Jimmy Reed tracks from a very special day in 1978. I know, some of you still love silvers, so I made some art for this set.

No repost, feel free to put it in the vault.

I second the request. Your tapes sound a lot better than the old IMP Japanese boot!

Is this Blue Tape by chance the same that was on Dime years ago, which included also new versions of I'll Let You Know and Not The Way To Go?

Thank you but how can you use the self made long version from that idiot rskinno's "box" instead of the orignal shorter version...?

I only used the short version from box 12 in my compilation . All sources are noted.

I'm comparing a lot of old tapes and cd's at the moment. Hope to find some more tracks.

No, think my tape didn't come to light before. All the other versions seem to come from other sources.

I missed the FF link in first post.

I should fly to Miami.
Because of Corona my flight got cancelled.

Had to cancel the rental car and several accommodations.
I was on internet and on the phone at least on 3 days to get my money refunded.
You can imagine IORR was not on my mind.
Still am waiting for the final call but it looks I will get all refunded.

Thanks to Rolling On I could download it and now upload it to Stonesvault
