This album grew on me. I remember the first time I heard it. Meh. Now, along with December's Children, it's among my two faves.

Goats Head Soup was the first "new" Stones album I got. I already had Hot Rocks and Get Yer Ya-Yas Out, but the first was a repackage and the second live versions of album songs (though I suppose those were "new to me").

GHS led me to More Hot Rocks, where I discovered the Brian Jones instrumental textures on the older songs, which connected me to GHS in a way that HR and GYYO didn't. Since I didn't yet have Exile and Sticky Fingers to compare, GHS wasn't tainted for me with criticisms of it being a "let-down."

After that, it was backward and forward in the catalog until I got all the official releases by the time I went to college. There, I discovered...bootlegs!

andrews27, same for me. Some friends of my age group gave me their copy of Exile, but GHS was my first new record as well. Angie was a curve ball for everybody, after the pure rock and roll of Exile.

2 "new" tracks + Save Me/Criss Cross

Opportunity missed. Goats Head Soup Sessions Nov-Dec '72, Dynamic Sound Studios, Kingston, Jamaica. More specifically the 8 tracks listed below. I've found 2 sources listing them, but no boots...

9 tracks that really should've replaced Brussels.

After Muddy and Charlie

First Thing

Give Us A Break

Jamaica

Men Eating Woman 1 (Instrumental vs. 10:52) & Short vocal vs.(3:54)...not the longer vocal version. (Sessions Jan-Mar '73, Village Recorder, LA,CA).

Miami

Zabadoo

Four And In (MJ/KR) -unverified (Nico Zentgraf)

These are "unverified" but there had apparently been 6 tracks shortlisted for GHS at one point : All the Rage, Save Me, Scarlet, Fragile, Tropical Disease, Separate Ways and only the first three were used in the end unfortunately.
