Do people still make DVDs? I don't. I haven't for many years.

I watch videos on my phone or computer only.

Getting a MP4 is always great! Getting DVD files or Blu Ray is a nightmare if I want to edit to just get my favorite songs or want to watch the video as one long file.

DVD format always un-synchronizes the video and audio.

It would be great to have downloads in DVD and MP4.

The only reason for a dvd is the quality of the audio tracks, imo. When I've done video and audio rips and a scan of the covers, I never touch them again. It's the same with cd's. I prefere to put everything on a hd and tag all the tracks to find them easily.

.MKV files are a better way to go than .MP4 in my opinion.

.mkv can equal Blu-ray video quality .... which by the way,it doesn't hurt to have some physical Blu-ray Discs on hand.That way,you know what you have (factory pressed commercial discs usually list the video and audio specifications on the back of the case). .mp4 is a container which can contain various levels of quality.

I have a movie that I downloaded as a Web-rip in .mkv format. In parts of the movie, unwanted German subtitles intrude. I tried recommended settings fixes in VLC Media Player, but none of these work. Is there a way to remove these subtitles, either while viewing or permanently?

Thanks, I tried it, but the subtitle codecs don't show up under Tracks. The German subtitles aren't all through the film, they just pop up in parts of chapters. I think they were added when the uploader made the .mkv file.

If the subtitles are embedded in the video you don't stand a chance.
Hard encoded, I believe they call it.
Otherwise you can see the individual tracks in MKVtool.

Actually, what I think happened was that this was a German Web-DL of an American film, and most of the web service subtitles were removed by the uploader, but not all.
