POST: Undercover sessions project - Volume 7 (FP 068)

UNDERCOVER SESSIONS
Presentation, objectives and thanks:
An attempt to compile all UNDERCOVER sessions that are in circulation and to rework them

This project was initiated in April/May 2019. In this period parts of the Art Collins Tapes (tapes from the estate of Art Collins, a former executive of Rolling Stones Records) came in circulation on The Outsider Bird Records ‘Bird's Vault’-series and also on DAC.
Fiddling with them around at first, I noticed that most of them had speed problems. First I started with the tracks that also appear on official albums, making synchronization mixes to find out the correct speed. Lots of the files from the Undercover sessions on the Art Collins Tapes (a/k/a ACT) needed to be decelerated by -3,863%, sometimes they were already decelerated on the published bootlegs… but not always in the correct speed.
So I started with OBR, then the DAC ones. Later I decided to make a compilation of all the circulating material from the Undercover sessions. At last I decided to put all the « circulated » versions in front of my reworked versions so you can make your own idea and delete what you don’t like…
Recently (March 2020) Mr D. decided to put the whole of the ACT in circulation. So I had to check them all to see what is newly circulating to be added to this compilation (in fact not too much except for the « Too Much Blood » variations)

I decided to post it in 7 parts, with for each volume the first CD containing only the untouched versions and the second my DIY. I left the many versions of "Too Much Blood" on the last two CD’s without reworking them: they form the 8th volume: a total of 16CD’s!
For this compilation I did not keep the versions that were used for official releases (b-sides, dub versions ...)
I used Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database a lot: [www.nzentgraf.de] of which I tried to respect the chronology and the order of the proposed versions. It was not always easy to spot the different versions; the result is not perfect and surely criticizable. I was able to make (I certainly do!) errors ... I thank you in advance for helping me to rectify them. Don’t forget all this is done for pleasure and passion....
I also used the Rolling Stones Bootleg Database: [www.dbboots.com]
I thank them warmly and also my partners in crime, Jaap and nzb, for their advice and revisions!

Belated appreciation for this project. Fantastic stuff.

Question about versions of Undercover, looking for all the ones that Nico has listed.

On Gemstones 7 there's this acoustic version, seems earlier/rougher than anything on this collection. It's Keith alone on acoustic guitar but seems to be something he might have done before he worked the song out with Mick in version 2 (on CD 1 of this collection) [WeTransfer of an MP3 version: [we.tl] ]

I have Wanna Hold You 1 on Bird's Vault Volume 2

The Complete Undercover Sessions (https://dbboots.com/bootlegs.php?op=showcont&cmd=show&bootkey=3703) - GP-1701 has a few versions, some of which I've been able to eliminate as this collection replaces them, but I've still got a version that's 3:08 and one that's 3:17 from that set that don't seem to match to any Nico's descriptions and seem basically finished versions that aren't maybe run short or are at different speeds, but I can't say for certain what they are.

Thanks for any perspective on these tracks, I can upload the other examples if that will help...

I checked the Goldplate version and it containt no "original" stuff: only already published material and some official rarities: I think they're edited versions

Apologies! I think I liked that version better so I deleted yours and then forgot I did that so when I came back to compare versions I just saw a gap and blamed you instead of myself. Anyway I'm happy now and appreciate this clarification!
