It's unique for sure, the first one that comes to mind, that can be compared,is close is the July 10th 1975 recording, the first half of the show, from the Millard-recording.

It strikes me, when writing this, that I am insane. And you too, dcba.

Happy recovery

Yes we are! I even compared this boot to my fav 76 tape (Köln afternoon show) : the TR title sounds better (but Köln has the better perf).
I'm so insane that I'm confident I'll live long enough to see the entire "Art Collins" archive be liberated! (and the B2B outtakes too!) grinning smiley

Hi everyone,

Glad you're all enjoying this recording. I was the taper and I thought that after the SB and video came out there wouldn't be much interest in anyone hearing this - especially as the sound is so Keith heavy and a bit unbalanced.

But hey, that makes it unique. It was a very surreal day - and 2 nights - out at Knebworth that weekend. Blazing heat all through the day and then, fittingly, a major drop in temperature just before 10cc came on. By the time the Stones hit the stage, shortly before midnight, I was a mixture of being frazzled by the sun, chilled by the cold wind of night, ripped but excited as hell to see my heroes.

I still can't work out how that Keith heavy sound came about. It must have been a true stereo mix because these days you'd get a wall of sound. I was standing slightly to the right of centre, level with the stage about 150 feet back in that huge Knebworth field. I used a Sony stereo cassette recorder and held the mic aloft which was hard work for nearly 130 minutes.

Anyway, it's out now. And yes, the Stones were sloppy but as I've always said, I'll take a sloppy Stones over anyone.

Best
SD

SD I have a nagging question :what did you do during these 19 minutes of the show that were not recorded [end of HTW to the beginning of MR]? grinning smiley

So it was you who taped this, Silver Dagger, well thanks so much.
You must havve had a great rig, both this and your London 1973 recordings are among the most precious Rolling Stones recordings. There's nothing like excellent audience recordings, beats the hell out of dry SBD rec.

Dagger if I were you I'd make sure your 1973 recording finds a new home in Japan, just like the 76 tape did. winking smiley
This Knebworth release is stellar (accurate speed, no re-amplifying of the music, great artwork).

Patch 2 - from the end of Hot Stuff to the start of Fool To Cry - 58 seconds of the soundboard source is used to fill a tape flip in the new audience source (no other audience source of this section of the show is known to exist).

There IS another audience source and so they could have fixed "Hot Stuff" like this avoiding the soundboard: [we.tl]
