request : Detroit 1969 - informations about 2LP very 1st release

Is there here a member who physically (in his own hands) own the very first original 2LP-set "WE DIDN'T REALLY GET IT ON UNTIL DETROIT" with the purple labels "THE STONES DETROIT" ?

I don't own this 2LP-set. I'd like to know what are exactly the matrix numbers.

DBboots says : S1 / S2 / S4.1 /S4.2

I have :

- "LIVE FROM DETROIT" (Bash Records - red labels with black letters) : S-1 X / S-2 X / X S-3 / S-4 X - audience noises are stereo

- "R.S" (black) + "R.S." (blue) : S-1./ S2. / S4.A / S4-B - european releases - reduced stereo audience noises to almost mono

- "In Concert" : S-1./ S2. / S4.A / S4-B - a repackage of above

- "LIVE AT THE ROUNDHOUSE 1971" : S-1./ S2. / S4.A / S4-B - another repackage

If someone can help, thanks.

My “We Never Really Got It On Until Detroit” is a single LP , 10 tracks, on the white contraband label.

I have not seen a 2 LP version

Live In Detroit 2lp on Bash red label is a much better sound .

Thanks for the answer.

As you say : My “We Never Really Got It On Until Detroit” is a single LP , 10 tracks, on the white contraband label.

It is an incomplete copy of "Didn't".

Anyway, many thanks, man.

There are no matrix numbers. Only Side-1 Side-4 on the first disc and Side-2 Side-3 on the second disc. Note that the S is capitalized and the dash is very faint.

Would you consider uploading your double lp set and posting a link here? It means uploading the vinyl to a sound file blah blah.

If you have any questions about how to do it (if you want to at all) email me at the address I have here. I had a cassette of the double lp set years ago that, even though it wasn't HD quality, was a lot warmer sounding than any CD release I've heard.

Well somebody at Dime did last september :

OLYMPIA STADIUM
DETROIT, MICHIGAN
NOVEMBER 24TH, 1969

01-JUMPING JACK FLASH
02-CAROL
03-SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL
04-STRAY CAT BLUES
05-LOVE IN VAIN
06-PRODIGAL SON
07-YOU GOT TO MOVE
08-UNDER MY THUMB
09-MIDNIGHT RAMBLER
10-LIVE WITH ME
11-LITTLE QUEENIE
12-(I CAN'T GET NO) SATISFACTION
13-HONKY TONK WOMEN
14-STREET FIGHTING MAN

Excellent audience recording (stereo?) from the BEST of the original vinyl sources, which is the "We Didn't Really Get It On Until Detroit-M. Jagger" double LP with the purple label reading "The Stones Detroit".

I was fortunate enough to find a very clean original copy of this LP which is quite rare and seems to be the first release of this recording. My suspicion is that it was done locally (in Detroit) which is where I found this copy.

Silkcut1978 uploaded his vinyl rip to IORR.
Many thanks to them. I am putting their work up via torrent, for you others to enjoy.
It's the best source for this Detroit 1969 concert.

COMMENTS #2:
Interviewer: What has been your most memorable or inspirational gig and why?
Iggy Pop: Rolling Stones, 1969, Olympia Arena, Detroit, Michigan. Because of the brazen audacity with which the beat was unhurried and the guitar sound was entirely unsweetened. It was like a heroin pie in your face.
(from the magazine "Exclaim")

COMMENTS #3:
This torrent features the "declicked" version of the vinyl rip.

ARTWORK:
I have made selfmade artworks - using photos from the actual concert in Detroit 1969.
They came out allright.

Also available in Stonesvault

1969.11.24 Detroit Matrix stereo [www.filefactory.com]

[info]
This is a recording of the Rolling Stones in Detroit, Nov. 24, 1969, toward the end of their US Tour that month. This particular version is a two source merge. Most of the songs are from a relatively common bootleg on the Minotauro label which has also been torrented here [www.bootcity.org] and other places as well. This CD is copied from an extremely rare 2LP vinyl set called "We Didn't Really Get It on Until Detroit." The title, supposedly a quote from M. Jagger, was printed in black on the otherwise plain white sleeve. This LP was released early in the days of rock music bootlegs, 1970, and was even reviewed in Rolling Stone magazine. It was quickly copied and put out by other labels, but the recording is only VG and was never reissued much after the early 1970s until this CD came out. Note that only the original LP and this CD are (barely) stereo audience recordings. All other vinyl LPs are copies of this one, in mono.

However, this torrent is sourced from a CDR made by a friend of mine. He started with the Minotauro CD (not from a torrent) and combined it with the songs available from the soundboard for this show. They actually come from some type of local TV shows; I saw a glitchy video 15 years ago but don't have it myself. For years these 3 songs were available on a German LP called "Mick Taylor We Thank You" but I believe these versions are from tape or some other CD. They are VG+ mono.

I created some generic art in MS Word in the spirit of the original no-name 2LP set. The Minotauro art does not index the introduction separately the way my friend did.

To give full info : this vinyl rip sounds notably better than any VGP/DAC release but on some tracks (near the end of the show) speed/pitch is not as accurate as on the VGP/DAC CDs.

My copy has

Side 1 / Side-4
Side-2 / Side-3

It was released in April 1970 or shortly before. Rolling Stone reviewed it in the issue of April 30, 1970.

I think the S-1./ S2. / S4.A / S4-B is a UK pressing, it usually comes in the black R.S. and blue R.S. sleeve.

Dbboots lists a copy of Stoned Again with that matrix but I am sure that is a mix up, the actual matrix is ST 1 A / B. This one is a Swedish pressing of Stoned Again from appr. mid 1971 or earlier.

However, there is a widely unknown Swedish release of the Detroit 69 show, housed in a plain laminated fold-out cover. Matrix is ST 2 A / B / C / D.
