Well, I guess the title says it all smiling smiley

I'm looking for disc 2 ( DAC-102 02 1972.07.05 Goin' Back To The Roots, Norfolk) in lossless format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(the version in the Vault and on my HD are both lossy)

Chris from Belgium

Thank you for the upload, but unfortunately disc 2 of your upload is also lossy (as is mine)
Disc 1: 399 Mb
Disc 2: 190 Mb

I checked with Audacity and disc 2 is the same as mine; lossy...

[wetransfer.com]

Not the DAC version, this is a fan-made composite I got from Dime eons ago.
It's roughly 400 Mb, so it should be lossless.

As you say, the source for DAC-102 is probably lossy. I didn't check it, I just rip it this morning from the silver.

Here is "Sweet Virginia" from a vinyl rip of the LP, I made it more than 20 years ago. Can you check if it is lossy or not ? As far as I can remember it was :
vinyl >> Pioneer PDR-05 - I suppose it's not lossy.
Unfornututally, the vinyl had lots of crackles. No EQ applied.

[we.tl]

In the mean time I aquired 6 or 7 other copies of the this LP, maybe one of them have less crackles (I collected them for variations of insert cover/lables/matrix numbers - but never really checked the sound quality). I can check that this week-end.

I also have an italian silver CD with labels "The @#$%& Back To The Roots - GBTTR 72001' and matrix "57132XK1 GBTTR72001" - Basically, it is also a vinyl rip hardly EQed, very treebly.

If I can help, just tell me.

Sorry for my poor english languange. Hope you understand.

Hi Chris,

Did we ever get the lossless DAC-102 Going Back to the Roots?

If so, would you please post it?

Thanks,

If the version that LiveAtHidepark posted directly from the silver is also lossy, what else do you expect? More than posting a rip directly from the silvers is not possible, is it?

Just looking for lossless DAC-102 Going Back to the Roots. My friend Dan asked me about it. I'm not familiar with "lossy" and "Lossless." I'm not sure about the definition of these terms. I don't know the difference. I know one is better than the other?

Thanks for your help and you other posts (downloads).

News about the Norfolk 1972 concert.

As most of you know, we have 2 sources.

source 1 - The old LP "Goin' Back to the Roots" released in 1973. I still don't know if it is a genuine "Rubber Dubber" release or a "Contraband" release copying Rubber Dubber style. Stamped covers exists in both styles, Rubber Dubber & Contraband. The recording quality is rather good for 1972.

Different matrixes exists, but all are from the same plates. (exept American tour in LA wich is a copy)

(scratched) 08A1 // VANCE (scratched) 3508B1 KYOTO
(scratched) 08A1 BADAV // (scratched) 08B1 KYOTO CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
BADAV (scratched) 08A1 // (scratched) 3508B1 KYOTO BADAV
RI 3508A1 // (scratched) 08B1 KYOTO (scratched) CAN 3208 B
902 A X / 902-B X (under the title "American Tour In L.A. 1972 - a copy)

This LP was copied on CD by an italian bootleg lable (probably during the 90's). matrix : 57132XK1 GBTTR72001 - Unhappily massive EQ was used so the sound quality is inferior compared to the LP.

Source 2 - the complete show from tape. It comes from a different source, clearly inferior to the LP, but complete. It have been released on a lot of CD's, including DAC-102.

So what's new ? It is source 1.

Musically, nothing. It is supposed to be a flat vinyl-rip, free of crackles by the use of a software. I hope the sound will not be changed by the software.

If the sound quality of the old LP is preserved, without crackles, It's really great.

Thanks for reading.

Other informations are welcomed.

collectorsmusicreviews:

"Goin’ Back To The Roots on Dog N Cat collects together two of those documents.
The first disc has the common July 6th Charlotte show from one of the best audience recordings from the era,
and the second has the July 5th Norfolk show from an acceptable new audience recording."
