Mick TAYLOR
29th October 1989
MONTREAL (Le Club Soda)
Frankenstein Production n°45

29th October 1989: Montreal, Canada, Le Club Soda
Line-up: MT (gtr, voc)/Blondie Chaplin (gtr, voc on 'Semolina')/Joel Diamond (keyb)/Wilbur Bascomb (bass)/Eric Parker (dr)

Jaap and I had the same version: only one half of the show (as if we had only the first CD of a double). On Traders Den the uploader Whotrader recently posted an almost complete version of this show (“Goin’ South” was cut in two parts and circa 1 minute was lost).
Then nzb sent me his version: it’s an alternative source, with a better sound but a little saturated and also incomplete. In particuliar the end of “Stranger In This Town” was missing. It also ran too fast (around 4,6%), about half a tone too high.
So I decided to make 3 versions for this show (because I like it so much!)
I lost the initial textfile with all the precisions of my “rework”: here I tried to recreate what I remembered!
- 1st with nzb’s version upgraded: I completed it with segments of the 2nd source at the end of tracks 05 and 09 and with 1 minute at the end of track 10. I reduced the bass but added a little more high tone and reduced the speed with 4,6%.
- 2nd with Whotrader’s version upgraded: I added a little more bass and in particuliar high tone and I reworked the transitions between the tracks…
- 3rd a mix of both sources: on the left channel is “nzb’s source” and “Whotrader’s source” is on the right… For the synchronization I “worked” by little segments (maximum 1 minute) because the recorder’s speed was not constant: of course I succeeded only with the parts that were on both sources! For example this is why here “Goin’ South” is also cut in two parts. On this I did spend a lot of time so I hope that others, like me, will appreciate the final result.

PART1: first source (“nzb’s version”)
CD1:
01 – intro and blues improvisation
02 – I Wonder Why

CD2 :
08 – Blues In The Morning
09 – Leather Jacket
10 – Stranger In This Town
PART2 : second source (« whotrader’s version »)
11 – intro and blues improvisation
12 – I Wonder Why
13 – Laundromat Blues
14 – Semolina
15 – Red House
16 – Goin' South – part 1

CD3 :
01 – Goin' South – part 2
02 – Band introduction
03 – Blues In The Morning
04 – Leather Jacket
05 – Stranger In This Town

CD4:
PART3 : mix of the two sources
01 – blues improvisation
02 – I Wonder Why
03 – Laundromat Blues
04 – Semolina
05 – Red House
06 – Goin' South – part1
07 – Goin' South – part2

As usual all the infos are taken from The Mick Taylor’s Complete Works Database by Nico Zentgraf: [www.nzentgraf.de]

A big thank to Whotrader and nzb who allowed me to use their files and to my usual partners in crime nzb and Jaap (Stonesmuziekfan) who gave critics and advise regarding my work.

Thanks, but I don't understand why you added John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, this was a MT 'sband private gig.
