CD label side: EX

Comes with original Patent Pended tray with one Compact Disc logo in the upper right corner.

The short answer - it is rare collector's item.

Tattoo You [CP35-3032] is the very 1st CD of the Rolling Stones in the world ever.

This CD belongs to so called 1st generation CDs. This particular pressing is from early 1984, before the deal with CBS was signed and before CDs became real mainstream. It was on the market in Japan only for very short time and was withdrawn in 1985. It contains flat transfer of the tape that was used for the original LP, no mastering tricks whatsoever. You hear exactly what was on the master tape that was provided to Toshiba-EMI in Japan.

Also, it belongs to CDs with so called 'black triangle' label that is highly prized among collectors of 'rare and early pressings'. In the case of the Rolling Stones there are only 3 CDs with 'black triangle label' - Tattoo You [CP35-3032], Undercover [CP35-3087], Rewind (UK track listing) [CP35-5021]. All were pressed in limited quantities and sold in Japan only.

It is not clear how many CDs were pressed. I guess - not too many even in the terms of 1984. Only 5 combinations of glass master/stampler are known (mind that for its sister The Beatles - Abbey Road [CP35-3016] 10 combinations exist and you do not want to know the price for that one).

It is. Because it has big black triangle printed on the label. Corners of the triangle 12 o'clock - 3 o'clock - 6 o'clock. 'Black triangle' EMI-Toshiba is a collector's slang for label design. Like Target by WEA, Redface by Polydor, Green Arrow by Mercury, Atomic by Mercury, Swirl by Vertigo etc. See here
