I wish I could help you, but don't know the answer to your question. Most of my boots are from the 1972 tour, but I don't have Vancouver. Only audience recording from the show. There is one version on Youtube, and the sound is ok.

Re: Vancouver 72

Yes babyblue; that is such a tempting setlist. But the truth is that they were pretty sloppy on that first show, and while there are a good many boots of the show, as far as I can tell it is all the same audience recording. Which isn't all bad, once you have your boot ears on.

Only one audience source for that one, no?

Ad far as I am aware, yes: only audience recordings and it’s a pity as it’s the only with solo by MT on Johnny Be Good...

What is the best bootleg to get for best sound please.

This one :

"Artist: Rolling Stones

Transferred By: JEMS

D & D Archives Master Series Volume 3

Setlist:
01. Brown Sugar
02. Rocks Off
03. Gimmie Shelter
04. Bitch
05. Tumbling Dice
06. Happy
07. Honkey Tonk Women
08. Loving Cup
09. Torn And Frayed
10. Sweet Virgina
11. You Can't Always Get What You Want
12. Ventilator Blues
13. Midnight Rambler
14. All Down The Line
15. Bye Bye Johnny
16. Rip This Joint
17. Jumping Jack Flash
18. Street Fighting Man

Length: 90:45

Notes:
JEMS is proud to be able to partner with and present some of the choice recordings in the D & D archives. Some of these recordings have been around for years but none of the master tapes or safety copies in some cases have ever been digitized until now. Dave and Donn taped many shows in and around the Seattle area in the 70's and also were contemporaries of some of the JEMS members.
Volume 3 captures the Rolling Stones on the opening night of their 1972 tour in support of their Exile On Main Street album. This recording was done on Dave's dads combo radio/tape recorder with Donn and Dave taking turns holding the mics and working the cassette deck. This an excellent recording but a little heavy on the bass. This copy is from Dave's reels, the masters may or may not still exist. It is possible Donn may still have them but they couldn't be located at this time (Sept. 2010)"

He obviously means 'Bye Bye Johnny'.

DCBA's post is very interesting. I have wondered at times if the actual tapers were still around, and active in some way; and most importantly had the masters. That sounds fascinating. makes you wonder if there are others. But a better Vancouver alone would be worth it for me to delve back out into the boot- universe.

The release of the "D&D" tapes solved a (minor) riddle among Stones fans. Why can one hear a "wow they sound so much better than in Seattle" on the 1973-01-21 Hawaii tape? It's because Dave & Donn saw (and taped!) both shows on thop of the opening 72 gig (lucky sods!).

I'll post it if nobody beats me to it.
The IMP boot was decent but it had speed issues, unlike the JEMS torrent.

There is a 2-CD set from Offbeat Records label called Vancouver First Night which is pretty damn good ---sound is not terrific and of course first night jitters but GREAT setlist and worth having for the first performance of Exile trax...from Italy in 1994....

It's not at all a sloppy show. "Pathfinding" is a better word, and what a path.

The JEMS version is still active on dime.

The guitars go out of tune and the sound balance doesn't allow the musicians to
hear it.

That's not sloppy playing, though. I can find you those shows.

Yes.
I tossed the Idol Mind when I got the Jems.

I wouldn't label any audience recording ex. The best I can say is that I don't listen to audience recordings very often but when I do this is one I will select from time to time for the setlist. And I enjoy it.

A suggestion - download the JEMs version from dime or download just one track if you have a ratio issue, a track from the concert that you like. Let your ears decide.

yes it is and it turns at the correct speed throughoutly. With some IMP 1972 titles youcouldget the impression you got a great gig (ex. Seattle late show). It was beacuse the tape they used ran too fast...

And on this Vancouver tape you'll find one of the most thrilling example of Stones fan excitement captured on tape. When YCAGWYW starts and the audience suddenly recognize the tune there's a roar that rises from the assembly. It never fails to give me goosebumps!

I don't mind audience recorded shows but without crowd chatter.
