Question about Live'r Than You'll Ever Be Tarantura Lurch Records
Posted by: hj3009 ()

Hi!
While working on "Live'r Than You'll Ever Be Tarantura", I noticed that Prodigal Son (2nd show) was missing.
So I had a look here: Post Label / Publisher "Tarantura" [iorr.org]
and found
TCDRS 01 1969.11.09 1st + 2nd Live'r Than You'll Ever Be, Coliseum Oakland.rar [filefactory.com]
But instead of Tarantura, I got:
1969.11.09 TCDRS- 1 Live'r than you'll ever be Lurch Records
So, I'd like to know if there's any difference between both recordings.
Many thanks for any help!
Hervé

Thanks for your answer, j.b.goode.
Now a new question: what we get in the Stonesvault (see 1st post) should be Tarantura and not Lurch Records?
Cheers
Hervé

Venue: Oakland County Coliseum, Oakland, California
Date: November 9, 1969
Lineage: Original Silver CD > Nero > Wav > BonkEnc > Flac

Original comment:

Here it is! Throw away all your other copies of the Live’R Than You’ll Ever Be bootleg because this is the definitive, complete version of these two historic shows. Here you will find both shows recorded that night in their complete form sounding better than anything else out there. Recorded from the original master 5” tape at 32-bit resolution. same artwork in the stonesvault are the cd-labels and the front, but
the back-cover in the stonesvault actually is inside 1,
and missing in the stonesvault artwork are inside 2,3 and 4 and the back.
that's why the [complete] artwork is posted above.

besides that: the download of stonesvault says
1969.11.09 TCDRS- 1 Live'r than you'll ever be Lurch Records

here is the original live'r by lurch

so it's not lurch records rs 510 1 cd, but
1969.11.09 tcdrs 1 Live'r than you'll ever be
without mentioning lurch record.

p.s.
no need to shout.
respect for your work,
just wanna help.

^^^Get the watchit low generation version. It has the missing parts patched in from an alternate source. Don't believe the hype on Tarantura, it isn't that good. The VGP version is better if you can't find the watchit version, but doesn't have the patches.

Watchit info:

This is the very well known audience recording of the Rolling Stones at their second show in Oakland, Nov. 9, 1969. It was recorded by the Trade Mark of Quality (TMOQ) bootleg guys, specifically to make a bootleg LP. For more details on that story, see included text file where Ken Douglas, one of the partners, tells his side of the story. It's pretty funny. He's now an author with his own publishing company. Another side of the story is told by Michael "Dub" Taylor (not Mick Taylor!) in the Clinton Heylin book "Bootleg" aka "The Great White Wonders."

This is an excellent-for-1969 audience recording. Not surprising, considering Dub bought the best equipment available. This particular source is mostly from a very low gen. CDR from 2000, not from any commercial bootleg. No processing, noise reduction, EQ, etc. was necessary.

The problem with this recording has always been that Jumping Jack Flash had several cuts and volume fluctuations, and Under My Thumb had the start missing. Several commercial bootlegs have filled the cuts from other sources, but never from the actual missing portions.

However, in late July 2010, ldb001 seeded at Dime a previously unknown (to me anyway) alternate recording, from the master. It's not quite as good as the TMOQ recording, but very good for 1969. It includes the missing bits of JJF and UMT, and more of the introduction as well. I have spliced those parts in, and attempted to correct the volume fluctuations as well. I boosted the bass on the ldb001 source so it more closely matches the TMOQ recording. I believe this to be the best possible quality and most complete version available for this show.

Presented in FLAC 1.2.1. Includes front cover art made by a friend years ago, using an actual Oakland '69 photo, and cue sheet for burning to CDR. First uploaded to Dime by Watchit, Nov. 2010.

The liner notes about how much hard work and effort that went into the 2nd show is laughable because they took it directly from the combined Turd On The Run/Sister Morphine 30 year anniversary release in 98. Remastered and dropouts and/or missing pieces repaired by Cool Hand. I mean, who would fix those in EXACTLY the same way! haha so Tarantula, you are busted for the source.

Hello j.b.goode,

The label you show correspond to a COPY of the Lurch record. The matrix numbers of this COPY are S-2110-A // S-2111-B. It was released/pressed in the Texas area in May 1970 or just before.

I bought the following copy to a french guy who bought it in Dallas in 1986 as a second-hand LP.

I bought the following copy to the first owner who confirmed me his hand-written note "may, 1970". He bought the record in Austin at Inner Sanctum Records.

The original LURCH label looks like this :

I have received the book "A Pig's Tale" hard-cover edition earlier in this month. This is the reason why I made a research on IORR and found your message.

This book is just gorgeous.
