trying to get a different version to the VGP
06 June 1972 – San Francisco Winterland – 1st show
« San Francisco Double Whammy »
For this ones I got 6 cdrs :
Informations coming from Nico Zentgraf site :
720606A 6th June: San Francisco, California, Winterland Arena (1st show), incl.
(Brown Sugar/Bitch/Rocks Off/Gimme Shelter/Happy/Tumbling Dice/
Love In Vain/Sweet Virginia/You Can't Always Get What You Want/
All Down The Line/Midnight Rambler)
Inlay and caracteristics of my cdrs :
• A°] VGP 338 « Winterland Stars » cd1
10 tracks from 06/06/72 and the two last from 08/06/72 ( = 10+2)
The best sound but the files are compressed (coming from mp3) and everybody allready got it : I will use it as reference.
• B°] « Frisky In Frisco » Idem (10 +2 )
Needs amplification and egalisation. Last track continue with 10s of Midnight Rambler !
• C°] « S. F. 06 June 72 » called « S.F. Double Whammy» by mr No idem (10+2)
Need amplification , some defaults and real too speedy and little compressed
• D°] « Thank You For Your Wine California » (Rockin’ rott) Idem (10+2)
already amplified but the separation between tracks are not great and runs too much slowly
• E°] « Mick Taylor Is My Darling » (ESKY 001 – CD n°1) (10 tracks).
Got the better « spectre » but too much slow like the D°]
• F°] « Second Show in Frisco » (11 tracks)
The mention of « Second Show » was added on the covers by someone ! it’s a fake in fact it’s the same as the B° ] but YCAGWYW is missed.
Conclusion of my ‘study’ :
- « All Down The Line » never appears and the one called « 2nd show » it’s a fake
- The best source is the ESKY production but the speed must be corrected +1,9% (I use VGP for the adjustment) but they’re gaps between some tracks so I improv them.
- The tape begin by a voice (original taper ?) that present the tape : I keep it.
- I keep also the normal fade in/out between « YCAGWYW » & « Midnight Rambler » (because « All Down The Line » is missed) and I restaur the last secondes of « Midnight Rambler » note that on this version the beginning of « Tumbling Dice » and « YCAGWYW » are not damaged (like on the Rockin’ Rott version).
- I added the two bonus from 08/06/72 that appears on almost all version : I take them from The Rockin’ Rott version (accelerate 1,9%, equalized and amplified) and completed with « S.F. 06 June 1972» because the Rockin’ Rott was missing the last minute ! (but some secondes stay lost in comparison of the VGP)
- I use the covers creating by my friend mr No for the version C°] and I keep the title !
