OT: Program for uploading video from a DVD?

My kind learned patient and good-looking uploading wizzes, can you recommend a decent shareware program
that will let me upload a short video from a DVD? "Good" in this case means:
- really easy to understand;
- downloadable without giving me malware up the wazoo; and
- free.
Recommendations of programs you actually use yourselves will be most gratefully received.
Please and thank you kindly!

I think DVD Shrink will solve your problem, sssoul. It's one of the easiest programs to do this job.

I'd suggest VLC player to rip and convert.
read this:

if it comes from Source Forge.net it won't have the nasty mal&crapware with it.
how easy or or how much of a headache it is to get it right depends on your skills and understanding.

anyway, good formats to upload files to YouTube in good quality but not too big in size are:
.mkv, .flv, and .mp4

Is this something for extracting audio files to whatever, Windows Media Player? It's be nice to get some things from DVDs that aren't officially available in other ways.

Thank you thank you! I do have DVD Shrink and I like it a lot for editing,
but I don't know how to do anything with the results other than burn them to another disk.

I shall have a look at that howtogeek site - thank you thank you. You're all stars :E

Transfer your DVD to your HD using DVDFAB or Nero.......(or any other suitable program and then upload to iorr using 'wetransfer' or 'Filefactory'.......... simple instructions..... here... [www.iorr.org] .....If your DVD is bigger than 2GB you'll have to split it and upload the folders separately naming them, for example....

New York 18.1.2006 - part 1 - 1.9 GB

New York 18.1.2006 - part 2 - 1.9 GB

With 'wetransfer', wetransfer will send the links directly to you.

With 'Filefactory', Stonesmuziekfan (Jaap) will send you the links and he will also post them in 'STONESVAULT' on Hotstuff.

I already know how to edit DVDs (using DVD Shrink - a great program that I've been using for years),
and I already have an account at a filesharing site; what I need is a program that will get the material off the DVD
and into a form I can upload.
I need something free, easy to understand and not laden with malware.
Thank you for your suggestions!

Haven't you got a 'Copy DVD to.....' option on your burning program?......

ie. Make a new folder on your HD and copy the disc to it.

Obvoiusly I'm not sure of the requiements of your filesharing site....can you upload straight from the folder (as on youtube) or do you need to compress it into a zipfile and then supply a link as on here?

Hi with sssoul,
You need a DVD ripper to get the data off your DVD and in your HD in another format, tight?
Have a look here for some free rippers with comments (including warnings for which ones might contain malware)
