ISO VGP 84 1995 05 27 Amsterdam - Foottappers flac

Hi, I am looking fror this show in flac - preferably a rip from the VGP release. The version from The Vault I had comes from mp3, and other bootleg releases are not nearly as good soundwise. Thanks.

After checking the frequencies are cut around 18khz, so not really lossless - but thanks again anyway.

I used db poweramp to rip it to FLAC. What configurations/settings or software must I use to rip this to lossless FLAC?

What software do You use ?

I checked with EAC and looks o.k.
Checked with TLH and says; looks like CDDA 49%, but don't know what that means.

Discovered a new option in TLH by checking the box Verbose;

This track looks like CDDA with probability 49%.

Still wondering what it all means.

Perhaps VGP pressed a recording that arrived lossy to them...

What the TLH results mean, if I remember correctly, is, that the tracks come from an original cd (lossless) with only 49 % probability, which is a low number. Although TLH is not considered trustworthy.
I usually just do spectral analysis with Audacity and have a look at the frequencies.

If the rip was done from an original pressed VGP, it means this is the best we can get. If the disc is only a burned copy of the VGP, it may have been made to look lossless even if it is not, while the original VGP may go well over 21 khz and so be lossless.

I have a VGP silver rip from, what I consider a trust wothty source, of the VGP edition.

According to your standards, it's lossy. Compressed to the 17-18 MHz frequencies.

As many other bootlegs from VGP, DAC or others, unless you have access to the original tapes used, this is as goos as you'll get it.

Good to know, Thanks for the info. Do you also have the VGP 111 Jack Daniels on Tour? If so, could you check the frequencies?
As for VGP, I found quite a few boots which go over the 21 khz line as well - so maybe it differs from show to show, or they only got the compressed versions of some gigs as Andrea noted.
I was told there is some hunting for original sources rips involved, so we will see - But based on what you say I suspect it is going to be the same for the Foottappers as your copy.

Some people here seem unable to enjoy a show without first making first a spectrum analysis... strange era.

It is not about not enjoying the show - it is about trying to find the best possible source of a show we like. If not, it would be useless to post any shows in flac.
Some time ago I found quite a few of my flac shows (not only Stones) have been lossy sourced as I never bothered to do analysis.I just though all had to come from a lossless source, because I received a flac version. In this way, if a 21 khz version exists and circulates, I had an inferior copy. If not, my flac files were a waste of space - if the flac cuts of at 19 khz or less, encoding it to a smaller 320 kbps mp3 will not make the source flac any worse, really.

There may be shows which have no collectors available source going over 21 khz, like The VGP Paradiso, but many do, and if someone for example has a
128 kbps mp3 version of a pressed original (which sounds worse), purposely converts it to flac and tells you it is lossless, he is not an honest trader, unless he does not know the real difference between lossless & lossy, which may be the case with some older or he is a person who tend to trust everyone). It is all an effect of the mp3 format. Good for listening in the car, on a bus, while on a walk, but not so much for a concentrated concert enjoyment on a hi-fi.

Hi Poetry

I think in some cases, you're looking for something that doesn't exist.

Without going into much detail, as there are many here that will know better, the frequencies depend on the media used on the recording.
Something recorded on iPod or iPhone will always be lossy, no matter how much you look, because the device simply doesn't record the high frequencies.

People sometimes forget that this same rule applies to tape decks and tapes.
Many early 70's audience recordings are made with low-medium range decks.
The acceptable frequency reponse of these would start at 12MHz and go up to the 16-18MHz range.

I have the Jack Daniel's On Tour rip with Lineage = SILVER CD > EAC > WAV > FRONTEND > FLAC 6.

Checked and it's a lossless rip shared by Mlejay on Dime on January 2006.

Thanks, letitlose6. Could you compare it to the one in the Vault? If needed, I can send it to you.

I am aware that a full spectrum release may not always exist. It is at least good to be able to know if it doees, and even with the lesser ones trying to get the best copy (one from a pressed disc going up tp 19 khz will sound better than an mp3 redone to flac cutting at 16).
