I think I know Papy.
Well, I know an Austrian taper who goes under the name of Papy. We traded a lot and I finally met him in person at the Ahoy show many years ago. We entered the venue together, and once inside, I took a couple of beer cans out of my backpack and offered him one. We had just opened the cans when local security jumped on us; although they had searched the backpack and let me in, they must have decided that bringing your own Belgian (!) beer would hurt sales of Heineken "piss" (sorry Dutch fans....). As Papy had his taping stuff on him, I decided to lure security away from him and started a scene. (I had a backstage pass, but kept that one hidden until the end). As I was working for NATO at the time, I had a diplomatic passport and starting a discussion about Diplomatic immunity and asking for a representative of the foreign service and so on, LOL! Meanwhile Papy was gone, so I decided to end everything; handed them the cans I still had (not before I had opened them all and had a sip of each), then showed them my all access pass, ended my performance and went front of stage to enjoy the show :-)

Next day, it was the club show in Vredenburg, and I ran into one of the security guards that happened to be one of those at the Ahoy. I'll never forget his words: "Oh no, not you again!!!!!!"

Anyway, thanks for the upload!

Chris from Belgium

Cool story Chris...
Thanks Ken.
You know, I always had issues with local security. They (well alot of them) act as if they own the venue and have God-like powers.

Last time the Stones performed in Werchter, I had visitors from the States (Blinded from Shidoobee and her husband, just contact them if you don't believe my story).
I wanted to surprise them by getting them back-stage.

So I went to see my contact at the hotel where the Stones were staying, but as this person didn't know my guests, my contact was hesitant to give 3 AAA passes.
Not wanting to let my guests alone, I asked for Rattlesnake Inn passes instead for the three of us
and got those without any problem.

When we arrived at the venue, local security, that was guarding the entrance to the backstage area, didn't recognize the Inn passes (although usually they get a print with all passes).
When I asked to see someone from Stones security, they flatly refused.

We had to wait until the gates opened and then I could get in touch with someone from the Stones security, who immediately let us in.

Having a bad character grinning smiley, I took one of the sheets with facsimiles of all passes to the local security guy to show him.
And coming from the backstage area, he couldn't but excuse himself, LOL!

So the next time, I asked for a AAA pass for myself and Inn passes for my guests, so I could get through and then come back with someone in charge to let my guests in.
