POST: Chuck Berry Blues

Happy Birthday Chuck Berry!! Lots of fun there.

I know nothing about this song, which came "titled" this way. Better ears than mine will love tearing this track apart...but I am forced to wonder if the second guitar is Brian Jones on some early version of a Vox wah-wah.
In any case, call the neighbors and enjoy this beauty.

Thank You! He was one of the great players and composers.
Once beeing asked to discribe his music, he just smiled and sayd: "Groovy!".

cool thanks

but this doesn't sound like the stones to me

and if it is its definitely not from the brian jones era

maybe mid 70's to mid 80's

and i think it's just a chuck berry jam not a specific song

also happy birthday chuck!

Wow, what a strange track this is...It sounds very much like Black and Blue era, the second guitarist sounds like Harvey Mandel....Also sounds a bit like the Run Run Rudolph session from Keith.

It could also be the perfect tribute band playing like the Stones would sometime in 1975 at 0500 AM.

Thanks a lot for uploading this interesting track, Matt!

The Stones archive logs list a track with Harvel Mandel called Chuck Berry No - coming from Munich '75, this might be the correct title for this jam.

It sounds like Keith and Mandel, imo. Stu on piano?

I've just listened to it once so far, so I didn't really listen closely to the rhythm section.

Thanks for the Mandel theory. I'm betting that's the answer.

Re: POST: Chuck Berry Blues

i didn't even think of the guitarist auditions

what made me think this may not be the stones is that it sounds WAY to good to have come off of a 40-50 year old cassette tape even a low generation one like most of the outtakes from the 70's

and though the the one guitar sounds very much like keith in this period the other very much doesn't sound like taylor or ronnie

but mandel that sounds right

however that really does beg a couple questions

where the hell did this come from?

if there where 75 outtakes floating around in nearly perfect sound quality amongst trading circles for a significant amount of time one would think some bootleg label would have snatched them up by now and released them

which makes me think this may have entered circulation recently

and what other large group of new outtakes spanning decades including this era also leaked recently in perfect quality?

the fully finished studio outtakes

could this have come from the same leak those originated from?

i think the ffso are all lossy but i don't really know how to tell is this recording lossless or lossy?

Thank you!

"where the hell did this come from?"

Matt/GM hinted at the fact he owns a much larger outtake cache than what was released on the Ffso.
And what was on this 3-cd set wasn't exactly the top of the barrel.

And regarding this one Nico thinks that :

"750319A 19th March - 5th April: Munich, West-Germany, Musicland Studios.
- Chuck Berry No (MJ/KR) -instrumental jam with Harvey Mandel"

Just quoting Matt...
"What I DO know, is that the person or persons who "released" the Fully Finished Outtakes were seriously misguided as to the most important tracks to include"

Thank you, Glimmerman!

GREAT jam. That's unmistakeably Ian Stewart all the way on keys.

Not sure how I missed that! Great jam, the bluesy version of "Hot Stuff" ! Amazing how eclectic the guys were at the time ;-) The sound is really good too, to think we've been torturing our ears with the "mailbox recording" De Doelen 75 sessions for years !

And yes GM, thanks for sharing another great gem !
