Now this is strange: Best quality of CS Blues and Brown Sugar w/ Clapton so far and noone seems to notice, or at least noone says "THANKS A LOT, MIDNRAMBLER!!!".

So please let me start the (hopefully) long queue:

"THANKS A LOT, MIDNRAMBLER!!!"

Not strange Alimente, it's just that people find usual to download for free what they should have paid years ago some bucks, it's just that we're in 2012 and I should not be wrong to say that there's 90 % grabbers , 5 % who write a comment and the rest who says thanks winking smiley

Thanks obviously MR, I recall the first time I've heard and got on a boot this Brown Sugar version with EC, there was lots of hiss and even a jump just before the solo of EC, it was a first generation of Italian Boots and I even forgot the cover >grinning smiley<

And btw Happy New YEAR 2012 to all the Uploaders here thumbs up

Edited for typos

Is this the bonus CD-single which was included in the Mid Valley Eric Clapton/Rolling Stones CD-box ?
I'll download this tomorrow, since Alimente says it's an upgrade. Many thanks, Midnrambler

Best wishes for the new year to all kind spirits on IORR.

The source of these 2 tracks is the unnumbered DAC release "The Rest Of The Best" (2CDs). They included these 2 tracks too although the one sided CS Blues single was only for a short time in the 4LP box and immediately withdrawn and Brown Sugar was not at all on the B side of this single.

I bought this one (yellow vinyl) some years ago in a "official" recordstore, they told me it was an off.release, and I believed that was a fact. It says Atlantics Records on the label - thats why I havent uploaded it - sorry - stupid me.

OT: talking bout off. releases: month ago I dl. some AWFULL alternate version of "All Down The Line".For a time I thought it was a boot (I never heard that version before), but a friend of mine, claims its an off. single release from "Exile". The B (or A-side) should be "Plundered My Soul".?
Anybody knows anything about this single???

cheers Bo confused smiley

It's a downloadable Amazon.com track, not the same as included on Exile Deluxe

"some AWFUL alternate version"

Yes an awful version. Same goes for the awful version released on the awful Exile On Main Street album.
Seriously, are you joking?

Downloaded it and, to my ears, both tracks are significant improvements compared to previously available versions, like Alimente mentioned already. A MUST HAVE!

What's your verdict, Erik?

I belive Alimente and you are correct, Retired Dog - allthough I haven't compared it closely yet. Sounds nearly perfect.

Thanks. These sound quite good. My previous reference was the pre-VGP CS Blues CD EP w/these tracks and the '73 RTL mono FM broadcasts. Good stuff.

Are these better than that EP? I don't have it handy to check.

Sorry, Bo, I just can't believe that you refer to that alternate version of All Down The Line as "awful". Maybe you mean "awesome" ? It's a terrific and cooking version (IMO), allthough not as "finished" as the version included on the awesome Exile On Main Street.

The EP sounds like it is from a restored (declicked) original single (Hard-On Records), from which all circulating versions (including the officially released Rest Of The Best one!!!) originate.

These new versions sound like they are actually from the studio master tape or a low generation/digital copy of the analog studio master.

Either DAC dug out the original master tape used for the Hard-On single (rumour has it that it was given to the original bootlegger by no one else than MJ himself!) or aquired a new transfer from the original studio master tapes.

Or maybe DAC simply took them from the CD "Thee Satanic Sessions" (Diabolo Music DIA CD 002)?

First off, thank you very much midnrambler!

My reference versions are a black vinyl 45 single and a blue vinyl 33 single with a fake Rolling Stones Records label.
Now I don't want to spoil the party here, but I prefer the vinyl sound!
It has more punch and I can live with a few crackling noises.
The cd version sounds too clean for me.
Just my opinion!
I don't think Brown Sugar is from tape either, I hear vinyl sounds at the very end of the track.

I hear vinyl sounds as well. Don't have the 45 single which you have, to compare with
Meanwhile, midnrambler's share is way better than all/most CD releases, for sure

Dear Erik! OK just your Norwegian humor - again!
No I meant AWEFULL, and your right "unfinished" is the word. IMHO its so awefull that I could`nt believe Stones released it as official. Thats why I wanted to get it confirmed that is was an off. release.
But you like it, I don`nt - "and thats the way it is" Peace.

Cheers to you

Thank you Midnrambler!

Do we know the story of this recording? I thought BS was recorded in Muscle Shoals? Was Clapton present? Or is this an early version or later studio jam?

I have enjoyed every alternate version of every Stones song I have heard. Some because they are more raw, others because you can picture a bit where they were with the track prior to it's finished version..often far away from where they ended up.

Most sources put this "Brown Sugar" on Dec. 18th, 1970
like Felix Aeppli and Wikipedia.
But some fans say that it was recorded in Dec. 1969confused smiley
