Like many users I have always seen "THE ROLLING STONES DATABASE by Nico Zentgraf" as the bible of information.

He says that the 'Satanic Boxes'-reels' contains "Child Of The Moon" .. in 1967.

The only take of 1968 present in this BOX is "Jig Saw Puzzle" not "Child Of The Moon"

I will just write what I read .. then I may have misread... but the site is there.

Eric, I think you may be a bit harsh on the "blog-moron". He has same info that all major sources have. His M's post string was certainly interesting to read, and he made some excellent points, but do you think there is enough there to definitively say when cotm was recorded? Like everything I read, I take it with a grain (or more) of salt!

I think so. The likley voice of Jimmy Miller, the open D tuned guitar etc all points to that 2 takes being from 1968. Unless of course they suddenly had an American help them out and Keith forgot that he first recorded with open tunings during Their Satanic Majesty Request sessions in 1967.

Well, all I can say on this matter, is that His Majesty is the greatest expert around when it comes to these 1967-1968 sessions, when it comes to dating them, who's playing what, what equipment they used, etc etc. He's a much bigger authority than other people on this matter. And he's not just "listing" things, he explains why it has to be that way - something that Felix, Zentgraf and others do not.

If you had followed his posts at "Tell Me" during the years, I'd bet you'd agree.
