POST: classic vinyl bootlegs series - updated with CVBS 083 - Works 16
Posted by: silkcut1978_ ()
Date: August 7, 2011 19:06

For a long time I had the idea to transfer a few vinyl bootlegs to start kind of a new series but it took me a while. First I had to replace the system on my record player than all in a sudden my amplifier passed and finally I couldn't record anymore on my old PC which finally passed as well. With a new machine and Windows 7 on board I wasn't able to locate a working version of DartPro 24 but finally Munichhilton gave me the hint to use soundforge which I like from the start.

But now please enjoy:

Thanx for your upload silkcut.
I have both Grande Finale and We Hate You on vinyl - but did,nt had the time to upload them.
I,ve never liked this one (We Hate you) it dos,nt come near at all to the quality of Grande Finale ( or the VGP-version wich takes the price).
You dont have to compare the whole show, just listen to Under My Thumb. The sound is a bit distant and sounds like the mics has been hidden in a woollen sweater - or something like that.
I do not hope you take this as a personal attack on you, or your effords. Far from. This is just IMO ( I repeat 1000 xIMO, IMO!!!!).

cheers Bo thumbs up

Hi Bo,

no problem - it just shows how different people may hear. I also think that Grande Finale is better, but I prefer We Hate You to any CD release. But that's just me and part of it might be that I don't like CDs at all, in fact I've lost every interest in CDs a while ago.

Anyway, I should have pointed out that I will transfer a lot of LPs that might be available on CD in better quality as well. I don't want to compare them as I don't want to listen to my CDs or downloads. I'm open for suggestions what I could do next but as long as there's nobody wanting anything I'm doing what comes to my mind. Midnrambler pointed out in another thread that he found the sound of "Mojo's Finest" horrible. I had it on my turntable a week ago and liked what I've heard. So he won't probably dl it but maybe someone else may like it.

So to say - not every upload of mine will have the potential to be an upgrade. It is what it is - sort of a time capsule back to those days where a new bootleg LP was an adventure.

Upgrades may come when I finally ready myself to listen to my old tapes again..:-)

Cheers,
Thomas

Hi Erik, you're welcome!

I think this bootleg LP was made in Germany or Austria and that's probably the background for the artwork. Gottfried Hellnwein who did the front shot is an Austrian artist.

Thanx Thomas!
Maybe you could do something about "Happy Bithday Charlie" from Köln 1976!
This is one of very few boots I got from the Black & Blue-area. I dont like that
area, but that Köln-show has "something" and I dont think it is that awfull at all, as many think. Agree? I allmost forgot Hollywood Palladium 1972!!!

cheers Bo

Now this is a treat for all us digital collectors. I only have a few vinyls, the rest is all CDs or downloads stored on hard drive, so this is a new world for folks like me. Greatly appreciate your work in doing this, I recently digitalised a couple of obscure albums for my sister-in-law so I well know the time & effort involved.

Re your flac issue on Windows 7. I installed the latest winamp on my laptop running win 7 & it plays flacs just fine.

Hi Bo,

it will be my pleasure to transfer Happy Birthday Charlie and Hollywood Palladium 1972. Next in line will be "The Stars In The Sky They Never Lie" as I already transfered it and it always has been my favourite audience bootleg from 1973.

After that I'll start with HBCharlie - I remember way back in the seventies when I had very small speakers a friend of mine had the idea to put them in a wardrobe next to each other "face to face", give them full power and then place the head right between them. I still can feel the pain in my ears but it was like being there in the middle of the audience:-)

cheers
Thomas

Hi Marko,

sure I will upload bootlegs with outtakes as well as there are a few classic ones. But as I wrote next in line is "Happy Birthday Charlie", then Hollywood 1972 (have an unplayed copy of it) and after that I thought about The Black Box, which includes outtakes as well as live and BBC-takes.

Cheers
Thomas

Great job Silkcut, that Hampton vinyl is nice!

What would be great if someone could upload the old 'Paris Shuffle' bootleg, I believe with a picture of Bill Wyman on the front. It has two versions of Start Me Up unavailable anywhere else, and the best sounding Jah is Not Dead and acoustic Claudine, if memory serves.

If memory serves me right that "Paris Shuffle" was included in the works-series as well, wasn't it? It sounds familair to me but right now I'm not sure if I have this LP.

Thanks for the vinylrips Thomas!

I suspect the vinyl 'All The Girls In Frankfurt' sounds better than CD-releases of that show.

Apart from Hollywood 72 and All The Girls From Frankfurt (in case I can find it, couldn't on a first look) I'm really thinking by now to transfer all works-LPs. I've only listened once when I bougth them about 20 years ago but there might be pretty much useless stuff as well in this series. Somebody out there who'd care for this series?

Many thanks for Happy Birthday Charlie; Thomas; I look forward to hear this one - as I have never come accross it, but been told that it was much better sounding than the VGP release of the same title
Though, I won't get to enjoy it the wardrobe way, I'm afraid

Another vinyl release which I have never heard; bought or come accross; which I've always been interested in; is "Comeback To England" AND/OR "Comeback To England Volume 1" (not sure how those 2 titles compares, soundwise)
I'm interested; because I would think they'd sound better than the CD release of the same title; but I don't know to which degree they'd be upgrades.
If somebody has one or both of those 2 vinyl releases; it would be very interesting

You'll be transferring the entore WORKS series....that'll be a lot of work for you. "Paris Shuffle" is not in the series, if memory serves. Nice items - those picture discs I must say

I think I have the Comeboack To England LP but I'll better take a look before I promise something I can't keep.

But I'll start with the works (48 LPs, might take me a while ;-) soon anyway. I always loved to think about hearing them for a 2nd time in my life and finally there's a reason..;-)

For now I've uploaded the Hollywood Palladium 1972 - it's a low-fi erperience and I wasn't able to remove all noise. Side 2 is nearly 30 minutes long and that speaks for itself. Don't expect anything special people. I have this LP 4 times and even though there's one copy I bought new and which I never played before (Two Great Albums Cheap) the verison I transfered is the best I have - a reprint from around 1977. Hopy somebody will enjoy..

Cheers
Thomas

You must be joking, never met an Austrian with bad taste ;-)

When the Stones stayed for a few days in Vienna in 1990 Keith drove to Dresden with Hellnwein and my finest framed piece of art is an original black&white image of Keef taken in Dresden, made and signed by Hellnwein. I once had this on the wall upon the bed until my ex-wife said enough - as she was always afraid to wake up and look either at me or the dark image of the Dartford guy. Now she's long gone but the picture is hanging on the wall. I could have done more bad;-)
