Live shows 69 to 81 where the vinyl version is the best sounding
Posted by: Rank Stranger ()

Hello!

I would like to make a list of the Stones concerts, where the vinyl releases are the best sounding versions; if I have the vinyl, I will put it up, if there's any interest. The ones I don't own, I would appreciate an upload by others from this forum.
But first to the list of the shows:

10.11.69 San Diego
24.11.69 Detroit
7.10.70 Essen
14.3.71 London
9.6.72 Hollywood
5.7.72 Norfolk
26.7.72 New York
14.6.78 Passaic
19.12.81 Hampton

Additions and corrections are welcome

I've interest in all the shows you mentioned, except the ones from 78 and 81.

I have just bumped my vinyl rip from Roundhouse, it's also in the list above.

And hi again!
Re.: Cologne 76, you're talking about the second show, right?
The vinyl is called "Happy Birthday, Charlie"

I have nothing but horrible memories about this show; surroundings really made me feel bad, I was only capable of recording this show partly and I haven't listened to it for 45 years!!
The vinyl I have no more, but I might be able to borrow it from a friend.

May I add that Essen '70 should be ripped from the double-LP (on Rubber Dubber), not from the single LP. It has more dynamics to my ears.

I think also the vinyl of "The Stars In The Sky" was never released on CD that good sounding. The 2nd release (Jean Clarke Memorial Sonic Barbeque) again lacks the dynamics of the 1st edition (2 more songs on it, speaks for itself).

Happy birthday Charlie is an interesting release. With the volume increased it sounds like standing in the middle of the Sporthalle.

What about 1982? Mojo's Finest (R'dam 5.6 & 2.6.), Napoli 82 (audience) are great releases, even Madrid 82 is worth a listen, better than the tapes that circulated for ages.

Could very well be. Maybe the soundquality on the TMOQ rips I've heard is partially ruined by noisereduction and 'remastering'. Reportedly the pressings of some of the Roundhouse boots weren't all that great, adding quite a bit of surfacenoise.

I remember the soundquality of Mojo's Finest being very dissapointing.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, perhaps, but is there no vinyl of Detroit '78? If so, wouldn't that be preferable to Passaic/Out on Bail? Or is there no complete Detroit '78, at least in the KBFH-type quality that we've heard?

Hampton 81 only if you mean the Grande Finale LP. For the complete show however the VGP CD is clearly the best one.

To be more precise, I'm simply looking for the best sounding sources for Stones concerts. Mostly, cds are best, but in some cases the vinyl is still the best.

Even if often the vinyl has only a part of the show ( see: Grande Finalé ), I believe most fans would love to have this, either the original lp or a good vinyl rip. Now of course I know it would be the best to have for example the whole show in the sound quality "Grande Finalé" has, but there you go, you can't always get what you want...

To silkcut1978_:

I will look out for the "Eau de Cologne" bootleg, has only a part of the show ( similar case as "Grande Finalé )
Re.: Essen 1970
I have the double-lp on Roll/Rope records, Stone-Relics once said, that it sounds like the Rubber Dubber, so I will do this; but as I'm quite busy at the moment, this may take a couple of weeks.

Let me do the Rubber Dubber and when you find time please up the Roll/Rope version. Would be nice to compare.

But as I wrote in the other thread. DartPro isn't working on my PC (Windows 7) - anything out there for de-clicking which is working perfectly like DartPro?

Soundforge 10 has a click and crackle removal tool.
I haven't had need for it, so I don't know how it compares to DartPro

DartPro is the only tool I came by so far which has an almost perfect rmoval tool for hiss and crackles. But thanks for the hint, I'll give it a try with soundforge.

Edit: again thanks for the hint - soundforge is working perfectly for me and I'm already workin with "We Hate You". Hope I'll be able to upload it in a few hours.

I don't know how to work with DartPro, Soundforge...
Maybe it would be better, if I record the bootleg on my Tascam and send you the cd-r, so that you can work on it!?
