The Rolling Stones, Bloomington 26-7-75 (FIXED!!!) mp3/320

...while the Memphis '75 played too slow, this one had the opposite problem. So, once again, converting the FLAC to WAV (I suspect the original FLAC files were, as with Memphis, mp3 sourced, but c'est la vie), I used Sound Forge 8 to adjust Bloomington to the proper speed.

That was the easy part. Clearly this was an indoor venue (a Student Union building if I'm not mistaken) but the source sounded like it was recorded under a bunch of blankets or something. Flat as a pancake and very distant sounding. Add to that it's one of those audience recordings where it mainly captures a big bloody party with The Rolling Stones playing in the background. What the hell; Mike Millard couldn't be everywhere at once, right? So what I did here was take the bass down and boost the mids considerably and touched up the highs as well. grinning smiley Charlie and Ollie Brown had a lot of help on percussion at this show: the handclapping threatens to overtake the drums a bit (Charlie's pretty quiet to begin with; boosting th mid-range helped considerably in that regard), which didn't help matters much. Oh well. I did what I could, though I admit I was sick and g-ddamned tired of hearing "Honky Tonk Woman" by the time I was finished with this! smoking smiley

For what it's worth, I think this was a mighty fine performance, all things considered, and besides, it was Mick's 32nd birthday(I was 32 once...sigh) and what sounds like a hell of a party!

Once again, in 320 mp3 format:

Did I open this in Windows Media Player? I got rid of Real Player when it took over my computer. In any case, thanks for the facelift! I look forward to "Bloomington? I thought it was a department store." - Mick Jagger

Thanks for the work on this. I've done similar several times and you DO get tired of hearing it!

Someone over at Guitars101 named "hugofuguzev" posted the 3 shows today on the 15th of Bloomington, Memphis, and Louisville with exact mirrors of your megaupload links and left this message to No Expectations request for credit to your post:

I was the original uploader.

This is my own personal remaster of a shaky sounding audience recording. As far as lineage goes, I think it's insulting that some goddamn amateur bootleg company put this show out in the original condition it was in in the first place. I've fixed it now, and here it is. Either download it and enjoy it or don't, I don't care.

Do you know this person, is it you under a different screen name, or ???. Just trying to sort the confusion, either way the post is much appreciated as these are 3 shows I have been looking for.

LOL...yeah, that's me. I didn't quite know if that name (say it out loud) would be appropriate here or not. Hugo's my 'old school' name, we go way back.

You guys still got the scoop, as it were, as far as these shows go. I'm giving it a rest for a while, but I'm around.

Bottom line...have any of you listened to these things? Do they seem like an improvement on the originals? Like I say, this is just a hobby- for me, if I can play along with it on my guitar, if I feel the urge, and have it sounding good played loud on a good system, that's it.

Really a good show. I'm listening to ADTL now. Lost Disc Two, and I'm lucky enough to see it's still available.

I am in awe of what you've been able to do with this (previously, IMHO) unlistenable bootleg!

From someone who was there,

THANK YOU

...You're all welcome, guys. And gals...

Like I said, the work on this recording NEEDED to be done, I think. At least there aren't fifty comments here along the lines of, "You @&$@$%& idiot...you made it sound worse!!!", so I must have done something right.

Four and a half hours I sat in front of my computer, using trial and error messing with different EQ configurations on Sound Forge. I thought I was going to have the first minute of "HTW" permanently tattooed to my brain- from Keith's guitar intro to the guy going "Whoo!" and the girl screaming "Yeeeaaahhh!!!" souding like the old Kool Aid jug mascot on helium. My wife thought I was nuts...she drove into town to do some shopping, came back and said, "You're STILL working on that crappy sounding Stones show?!" But it looks like it all paid off...I think what set me off in the first place was my outrage that a *##$%@% bootleg company actually put out this thing in its original form sounding like a piece of @%$#.

...Bottom line, though folks...I am STILL looking for the Philly '75 shows...anybody got 'em?

I downloaded your post back then but never cleaned up the files and after a little work I sourced it from your post.

The decieving part was the track times did not line up with the only available release "Bloomington 1975" which had me wondering where I got it and what release it was. Maybe your cleaning up of the show extended the track times.

Either way it is a much better listen than the "Bloomington 1975" release that Rockin Rott put out albeit the same source. Your right, it did sound like it was recorded under a bunch of pillows. Much clearer now on the high end. In a proper sound studio you probably could have turned it into a very good audience recording. Great job and a belated thanks for the work. Now I have to check that Memphis show.
