I saw SD at The Beacon last week- thought some on the board would like to see the first 3 songs from the album.FWIW Here it is.

Cool! I love Steely Dan, though I'm a bit skeptic about hearing them in a modern setting. Part of their appeal, IMHO, is that they tried to sound ultra-slick during the 70s when you could only do that to a point, because of technical limitations, so they ended up sounding fantastic. If you get what I mean. I'm a little afraid that they just sound too clean and professional today.

In any case, their songs are incredible and I wouldn't hesitate to see them live if they came to a city near me (I live in Sweden) and ticket prices were ok. Gotta say they sound very good in this video. Love that album too. Kid Charlemagne is one of the world's best produced songs, I think.

I agree with when you write:"that they tried to sound ultra-slick during the 70s when you could only do that to a point, because of technical limitations, so they ended up sounding fantastic" - I think they chose to tour very limited back in the day, because of that exact thought. Larry Carlson was the lead guitar on may originals from RS. But it was still a great show.. I hope you enjoyed the video... I
I'll post more on YT later.

Larry Carlton! Anyone remember the solo hit he had with the cover of Sleepwalk, from the late 80s or so?

caught them this summer at a small outdoor venue where the weather and sound were just beautiful.
I remember thinking that its been a long time since I've heard such a crisp, tight sound live. The horns, guitars, et al were awesome.

I've seen this one. Man, Ginger isn't very pleasant to be with. Great to see all unknown videos and stories, but it's hard to see a grumpy agressive old Ginger Baker... :-(

Semi-OT: Paddy in Exile-land

Have always loved Prefab Sprout who just has released a new album. Nowadays Prefab Sprout is a solo project by Paddy McAloon.
One of the songs' video features the Hitchcock movie "To Catch A Thief" from 1955, partly filmed in Villefranch-sur-Mer.

The new album Crimson Red is excellent. Best album McAloon has put out since Steve McQueen.

OT: Rory Gallagher - Used To Be
Posted by: OpenG ()
Date: October 16, 2013 18:53

Rory refused to put out any single crap as he battled with his record companies throughout is brilliant career.

Do you think Used To Be is the closest song that could of been a hit single?

Hmmm, Rory put out a lot a great material and although he may have eschewed releasing singles, I think his "Overnight Bag" came the closest to being a commercially viable single.
