The record you played...to death

...(almost physically) was "Still Life" in the summer of ´82.

Five years after the release of LYL I remember blasting a new live version of Under My Thumb out of
a record store I just walked by.

I was thrilled, jumped into the store, asked the clerk about.
He answered ,that the album´s just released that day.

Went home with it,proud and happy, playing it over and over again, the tour started,we
went to the first cologne show,Rocks Off came into the theatres,...,
what a hot summer that was.

Someday realized (knowing Brussel tape and 78 stuff) that it is somehow strange, good but compared to the tapes mentioned weaker,a lot weaker...

I don´t have this record anymore (shame on me),but this year I couldn´t resist,
picked the CD for a few Euros.

Can´t imagine that it´ll have the same fate as the vinyl version...

I did just the same thing with Still Life, it was our party record for years.

I´ll give this thread a reloaded shot ´cause I think the original title
was probably misleading and I didn´t intend to open just my diary.

And,be couraged,everybody´s got a record played to...

For me Get Yer Ya-Yas Out. I wore it out by playing it ad infinitum copping riffs.

hw61 revisited - played it virtually daily for maybe 2 years in college. literally wore the grooves off of it. think i wound up buying 2 or 3 lps - got a mono version too (by far the best sounding of any source, including the sacd).

still life is probably the least played of any stones vinyl i ever bought...although it was fun to look at the picture disc.....

I used to work at a convenience store (a la 7-11) and, praise Jesus, we were allowed to listen to music while serving customers. There was a boom box on the counter behind me, and I played both Tattoo You and Undercover over and over and over and over. Never got tired of those two ... still love 'em.

Exile...my third stones disc and couldn't stop playing it. Listened to it on my head phones over and over...was mesmerized. Still am.

THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDS... faithfully listening since 1970.

I just bought the Live at Leeds Japanese version on Super High Def CD and it is amazing. The voices and especially Pete's guitar really stand out.

Undercover. At some point, listening to Too Much Blood over and over, the vinyl record got a scratch or something in it and it would skip right there, over and over. Got the CD of it a few years later and whenever I'd play that record I would anticipate the skip. It never happened. To this day I still wait for it to skip.

Good story Skipstone.

I remember buying the cassette tape for Exile On Main Street around 1983 & playing it that much & rewinding "Torn & Frayed" continually until finally both the tape & cassette deck had had enough.

The tape chewed up and I took the cassette apart & delicately re looped in the tape & put the tape back together.

Needless to say, every time after that when I played Torn & Frayed, there was about 3 seconds of muffled noise & the tape sort of creaking right near the start of that beautiful outro.

When I got it on CD [guessing around '89], I was same as you, expecting the same problem every time, and even to this day, I still think "Oh no here comes the part of the song where I stuffed it up"!

I can relate to your story very well.
