How come has this brilliant footage flown under the radar for the IORRians for four months?

It was already posted before, but a bit hidden: [iorr.org]

I thought that it must have been seen before!

Ahh, thanks.
Also I only saw Crossfire Hurricane at the local cinema, not having the BD/DVD so didn’t know the footage was available as a bonus feature.

Yeah, I spotted it there, and was totally stunned. Especially Brian's strong guitar presence made a huge impression to me (but all of them are wonderful). Great that this gem is more widely recognized now.

If you are a guitarist howwould you characterize the quality of Brian’s playing? Was it hard to play orwas it good?

I am a guitarist and all I can say is that you entirely miss the point.
What is the point?

If you need others to explain if it's good or if you can only appreciate music that has wiggly-diddly 10 notes per second hard to play guitar wizardry then Stones music is probably not for you.

What are you talking about? I think his playing is great, but every time I say that we get a so called expert like you to say it’s simple, anyone could play it.Not being a guitarist all I know is as a layperson , his rhythm playing is great. You understand now?

It's great and easy to play. Those things do not necessarily conflict smiling smiley

These clips are awesome thumbs up

I never said that because I don't think about music in these categories. Music just moves me or it doesn't, it lets my neck hairs stand up or leaves me cold, simple as that. Most Stones music is fairly easy to play but that does not make it less genius than, let's say, Beethoven. It simply doesn't work that way, at least for me. Others may think differently, though.

I (now) understand you, but your first post was a bit, eh, misleading.

i was listening to this yesterday and it struck me just how awesome and fun there version of this song is

it's like you can literally feel and hear how much the bands enjoying recording it

i can absolutely understand why crowds went insane when they played it onstage in the early 60's

i would really love to see this get revived next year if they tour europe in the way 19thnbd was during recent tours

very unlikely i know but still i think it'd go over well with audiences and the band might just enjoy revisiting it too

As I have written in another thread: This is a rock'n'roll song. But what makes the original studio version from the Rolling Stones so great to me, is that the Stones play it as a rhytmn and blues song and with such a feel. That makes it stand apart from their other covers of Chuck Berry songs, at least to me.

I like the Stones’ take on Around and Around, but my favourite Stones rendition of a Berry-original had to go to Bye Bye Johnny.

This song (along with the Beatles cover of Rock and Roll Music) is one of the only times in which the cover of a Berry Song is better than the original.

Just about all Stones covers of Berry songs are better, really...

Perhaps the only exceptions are Come On and Run Rudolph Run.

For me, what's missing from the Stones' rendition of Around and Around, is a terrific guitar-break from Keith. IMO, the BBC version is better.

Keith's solo on the El Mocambo version is terrific though...

As far as I know they've always it in standard.

Usually, yes; I’m just sure I’ve read here, sometime, that Keith was in open-g on this occasion. I could be wrong, of course!

Checking multiple pictures of the gig makes me stand corrected: they used Beyer M160 microphones. These M160's were the favorite of the night's engineer Eddie Kramer for recording Jimi Hendrix amps. This picture is during Around and Around.
