What does Dave mean by "lost his way"? Does this have anything to do with him not being on The Final Cut album? Anyone know the story here?

Well, if I am correct, he was "fired" by Roger somewhere during The Wall recording and he actually played on concerts as a payed musician, not as a member of the band. That shows what a humble guy he was. There were some legal problems with the contract, I don't know exactly, but Rick didn't want to cause problems to the band (Dave and Nick) so he rather stepped aside to Roger and accepted his role this way. Extraordinary. And if I am correct, there were still the legal problems much later, since the figt between Roger and the rest of the band went on and on..., so I think he wasn't a regular PF member during the next two decades, not even on The Division Bell. But I am not sure here, someone might give us some more details. Nick writes about it in his "Inside Out" book, I will check it...

Now it is really sad that things were never really "solved" between Rick nad Roger. It is so sad when people are angry with each other and then...they find out it is too late...Just like I am sure Macca feels terrible about never getting things right with John. I bet that Roger Waters has a lot to think about now...he will not have another chance...It would be good if this lead at least to him and David speaking together...before it is too late...(but these days it is surely David who is not keen on seeing Roger, Roger tried to make a contact on several occasions. But who am I to judge?)

Anyway, I thik it is really bad that the first thing that many people and almost all the newspaper mention today is that the PF will now never reunite. Who cares now? A wonderfull person has died and all that most people (not on this forum fortunately) are able to think about is that there won't be another PF gig. I think it is time to sit down and think quietly for a while. RIP.

Perhaps Waters did solve his issues with Wright on time...

It's still hard to believe, will always remember the Pink Floyd shows in Rotterdam in 1988 and 1994. And last time in Milano, Gilmour solo with Rick Wright on keyboards... Echoes forever...

I believe Waters and Wright did resolve their issues as much as possible. I remember reading that when Waters resumed touring in 1999, Wright attended the Waters show in Atlanta with his new wife. He had arranged backstage passes for after the show without Waters knowing anything about it. Waters saw Wright backstage after the show and was very surprised. I don't think much was said between them, but I based on interviews I've read with Waters, I believe Wright gained a lot of respect from Waters for having the courage to meet like that. I think that even started the softening in Waters towards Pink Floyd.

In 2002, Waters was on holiday in the Carribean and was approached by Nick Mason while on the beach. This unexpected encounter led to Waters and Mason renewing their friendship, which is what led to the 2005 Live 8 reunion. In 2006, Waters was sceduled to perform Dark Side Of The Moon in France with Nick Mason plying with Waters and Waters extended the invitation to Wright to perform with them. Wright was on a break from the tour he was doing with David Gilmour, so he could have performed at the show, but I believe he turned Waters down more out of loyalty to Gilmour than having any problem with Waters.

During a 1 year period in 2005-06, I was fortunate to meet all 4 Pink Floyd members here in Los Angeles while they were here for touring and events like Nick Mason's book signing. The time I had with Richard Wright was very short, but he showed what a gentleman he was. I knew the hotel that he and Gilmour were staying at and when they returned after a show, I walked onto the grounds of the hotel. Security approached me and my friend and were asking us to leave, but Richard told him that he would sign an autograph for each of us. He signed for us and I had time enough to congratulate him on the great shows they had done here. One of my most treasured music memorabilia items is that Wish You Were Here LP that he signed, along with Waters and Mason.

Looks like David and Roger have patched things up a bit, if this is anything to go by..

Looks a little awkward and cagey to me. I think it was more of an obligation to say "hello", more than anything else.

Rick was doing a lot of coke during the sessions for The Wall album. He was out of it and not pulling his weight musically. Most of the keyboards on that album are played by Bob Ezrin and an uncredited session man named Peter Wood. Eventually, Rick lost interest in the band, stopped showing up for sessions, and was fired. When Floyd performed The Wall live in 1980-81, Rick was onstage as a salaried sideman, not a member of Pink Floyd.

Rogers's line "I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains", from the song "Nobody Home", is a reference to Rick.

Yeah but Wright totally pulled himself together during the 2006 tour with Gilmour. I saw one of the shows at a small theatre in Oakland and it was excellent. They had a great chemistry together.

Yea, I know this clip, it is on the Remember the Night DVD, right? It really doesn't look like a meeting of good old friends to me.

After what I have written, please don't think I don't like Roger, I like his music a lot and as a person - I don't want to judge, I just tried to mention some facts... I have seen him on stage, which was one of the best concerts I have ever seen, but never met him personally.

Well, it looks like two people who don't have much in common anymore.
It happens. Kind of like the Beatles Anthology series where I noticed
the tension between George and Paul right away.

I'm glad he got another chance to write with the band in 1994 on The Division Bell (which was a great tour - saw it at the CNE in T.O.). Wearing the Inside Out was also played on this Gilmour boot I have from 2006.

I love Floyd, and the Live8 reunion was a miracle.
RIP Rick - we all have to go sometime...
