Posted by: trainarollin ()
Date: September 10, 2008 01:12

Yes has found a new lead singer to replace ailing Jon Anderson and are routing a tour of North America in a couple months, does anyone know his name. The official website and fan sites are mum on this so far.

Line up is:

Steve Howe
Chris Squire
Alan White
Oliver Wakeman
New Singer, heard it was Benoit something or another?

Heard he was suffering from respiratory problems. Hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

As you know, I am going through a very difficult time physically and emotionally. But my spirit is strong and I just want to thank you for all your prayers and good wishes that you have sent my way.

Let's hope Jon gets better!

...then when he's strong enough he can get together with Trevor Rabin and Tony Kaye.

Prog rockers Yes (in the wake of Jon Anderson's illness and the subsequent cancellation of this summer's planned U.S. tour) have gone the Journey route and selected a tribute band singer to replace its iconic frontman. He's Benoit David from the Canadian Yes tribute band Close to the Edge. (www.ctte.net ).

Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White are arranging a new line-up of Yes with Oliver Wakeman (keys) and David on vocals. The band plan to tour North America towards the end of this year, with a break in early 2009 given Howe's prior commitments to Asia, and then further Yes touring in other markets.

That's totally pathetic. Just like Judas Priest, touring with a tribute band singer replacing the genuine article.

Once upon a time, Yessongs ruled my stereo. But after years of increasingly diminished returns, Tormato caused me to write them off once and for all. Except for Going for the One, they made very little worthwhile music after Bruford left.

I recently got a boot of my first Yes show from Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ in 1976. It was sad to see just how badly they'd completely lost it. Tales and Relayer indicated that they had completely forgotten how to write anything that vaguely resembled a hook.

They don't need to find a new singer, just turn the radio on to any Valassic rock station and you'll hear the same old Yes garbage along with everything else every hour of every day.

That stand-in is pretty sad especially as the proper singer is ill. Not even the decency to bring Trevor Horn back to give a tiny semblance of authenticity.

And will this bozo pick up the same salary as Anderson?

Bit like the ongoing Zeppelin thread; can we really call this Yes?

It's laughable.

...and yes, I think this finally signals the end of the road for Yes.

Where's Trevor Rabin when you need him? Wouldn't that be great!

Trevor is doing movie scores. Look it up, you have probably heard many of them.

According to a report that I read yesterday they claim that this will allow them to perform some songs that Anderson did not like to do live plus some other obscure stuff.

The question I have is why not wait for Anderson to recover, and what does he think of this?

Please, in the name of everything that is holy, just hang it up.

I dunno about Jon Anderson, but Rick Wakeman said he doesn't want to do extensive touring anymore and recommended that they hire one of his sons instead.

Jon Anderson, from what I understand is in bad shape. Yes is NOT Yes without the vocals of Jon Anderson. Chris Squire and Jon Anderson own the Yes name. Chris has the right to earn a living and it's up to the fans if they want to participate.

I would see them just to hear Steve Howe live. He's really one of the last guitar greats. Chris Squire is one of the last bass players who has balls to his sound.

I miss Entwistle.

I didn't think YES could become anymore the antithesis of good music- they have managed to astound me once again!

Maybe if they replace all the original members they can actually become a good band. Only three more to go!

>> Only three more to go! <<

only one more to go, actually - Chris Squire is now the only one who was in the original lineup.
the replaceability of bandmembers has been a Yes policy for a long long time
so i hope Anderson is okay with this "understudy" situation. i hope he's okay period -
i lost interest in their music a long time ago, but what i've read about his health situation sounds distressing.

To my mind, this underscores it:
THE SINGER NOT THE SONG...

Good lord, the man is gravely ill, this is just in terrible taste. A new low in a field (replacement parts for classic rock acts) already known for its sordid lows. At least the Who waited until Entwhistle was in the ground and the memorial service was over to announce his replacement ...

Not true. John died June 27. On June 29 they announced that Pino would be their new bass player. They played the first show with Pino on July 1. Then they played a few more shows. Then they flew back to England for the funeral.

For some reason I was under the impression that this tour was going ahead with Jon Anderson's blessing and approval. Not so, according to Jon's web site, where he says he feels "disappointed and disrespected", and, that aside from one phone call from Alan White, he has not been contacted by any of the guys since he became ill.

Weird that it could go ahead without his approval, I thought he and Chris Squire owned the name.

Ok, you got me there. But, Howe has been a member since 1970 (though he's been in and out of the band a few times) and White has been a member continuously since 1972. So I think Yes should replace them as well, they're not original members but they've certainly crapped out more than their share of pretentious prog rock over the years.
