Yes an acquired taste but I do find him funny. I only caught a few bits and it sounded like he was typical form at the awards. You make the mistake of thinking that anyone critical of Bush or Cheney (or McCain or Palin) must just be doing it along political rather than philosophical lines. Brand doesn't have any links with American politics, he is just from "the rest of the world" and relects how a lof of people in "the rest of the world" view things.

The "R" word is "retard" used as a noun. It's one thing to say someone with developmental disabilities is "mentally retarded," after all, that clinical-sounding term has been around for many, many years. But to call anyone, developmentally disabled or not, a "retard" is disgusting.
I've been volunteering with DD people for more than ten years - many of them and their families still hear it and, despite their disability, are offened and hurt to the core by it.

I think he's 'mostly' funny, but, he does go a little too far sometimes.
He was SACKED BY MTV after arriving for work dressed as Osama Bin Laden the day after the September 11 attack. Bizarre that he got his job back.....
