Dire Straits in 92 was boring, but not bad though. I stay away from the really poor concerts

the playing
the band
the attitude

The Who Wembley 74/75 can't recall the exact date, support act were Steve Gibbons band.
Steve Gibbons were very good, but the Who were appalling, just a noise , if it wasn't for the crowd knowing some of the songs you certainly wouldn't have recognised anything coming from the stage.
The only thing to treasure was that at least I got to see Keith Moon before it was too late

Bob Dylan in 2006, Pittsfield, Ma; he SUCKED! Played totally obscure songs and the ones we were all supposed to know, he butchered so bad you couldn't tell what they were! He played organ, no guitar! Never touched his guitar, played some harmonica.

Sounds like a fantastic Dylan show

Van Morrison comes to mind. He was very drunk and sounded terrible.

Styx - sometimes early 80's. To make things worse I went because of a girl I had a crush on - and she would have nothing to do with me *lol* So - what can a poor boy do? Get totally and utterly and helplesly drunk, that's what! Which I proceeded to do and I was duly thrown out two thirds into the concert.

Styx suck!

Sounds like a fantastic Dylan show

1. Drifter's Escape
2. Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues
3. It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
4. Moonlight
5. Down Along The Cove
6. Girl Of The North Country (acoustic)
7. High Water (For Charley Patton)
8. Every Grain Of Sand
9. Highway 61 Revisited
10. Blind Willie McTell
11. Chimes Of Freedom
12. Summer Days

(encore)
13. It Ain't Me, Babe
14. Like A Rolling Stone

'Totally obscure' ??

Most Dylan fans would kill to hear Blind Willie McTell and Chimes of Freedom in the same show.

I'm a big fan of Uriah Heep, but their Dec 1985 gig in Göteborg (Kåren) werent top notch.
Same can be said on Ebba Grön, the former punk rock legends at Roskilde 1982.

George Harrison at Madison Square Garden in December 1974. Dark Hoarse indeed. His throat was ravaged, and he felt compelled to change old lyrics for the worse ("Something in the way we move it," "In my life, I love God more," etc.). He had a band that seemed fine on paper (Andy Newmark, Willie Weeks, Billy Preston, Tom Scott, Jim Horn, Robben Ford, etc.), but churned out slick mid-70s lame-o arrangements. It's no wonder he was reluctant to tour again.

That whole tour was a mistake. He lost his voice while recording the album, and then he tried to soldier through the tour. He should have postponed. Sometimes "the show must go on" is a really bad idea.

It's too bad his break-up with Patti didn't result in Great Art instead of the shambles that the Dark Horse album was. That same year he produced the debut album for Splinter on his Dark Horse label that was a much more polished effort.

At the show I went to in LA he lectured the crowd after someone yelled for "Bangla Desh!" He didn't just want to distance himself from his Beatles catalog....he was reluctant to play his own stuff!

It's a shame too, because had his voice been in shape and had he been in a better frame of mind, he could have done some killer versions of songs like "The Inner Light" or even "Within You Without You" because he had Ravi Shankar with his own orchestra on board as opening act.

But that wasn't the worst concert for me. Mine might be an ELO show in '76 that I tagged along to because my friends had a free extra ticket.

I had already seen Patti Smith and the Ramones at that point. Going to ELO was like a trip to the dentist.

Yup that was it. Actually Sweetwater was the opening act and Jerry was the Middle act. When the Crowd started booing Jerry he yelled "I hope you all get heart attacks".

Are you sure this date is correct? According to a reliable Jerry Lee Lewis book this was on the 13th, & Jerry played The Palomino in Hollywood on the 14th & 15th of December.

I got a copy of an audience recording of this particular LA show saying 'Dec 14 1968', and I don't recall reading/hearing anyone claiming the actual date was Dec 13

Unfortunately I don't have Greg Shaw's book 'The Doors On the Road' - which is the most reliable source for Doors concert dates and setlists - at hand anymore, so I can't check it.

What Jerry Lee book are you referring to? I'm very interested in reading more about this show.

Maybe BluzDude has a ticket stub?

"The Ferriday Fireball" by Paul MacPhail. It's more of a day-to-day listing of all Jerry's concerts, recording sessions etc than a "proper" book, & doesn't even mention that The Doors were on the same bill as Jerry (though I know from elsewhere that it's true), but his research for correct dates are usually pretty accurate.

Incidentally Jerry was in the middle of his big country music "comeback" in this period, & used fiddle & steel guitar on stage. So this might've been what alienated the audience (I suspect if he did his early hits he would've done fine, even to an audience of stoned hippies!).

According to Stephen Davis' Morrison bio Jerry played both Whole Lotta Shakin' and Great Balls of Fire, but how well researced that bit is, I really don't know.

Found this concert poster at The Doors Gigography website: [www.geocities.com]

There's also a couple listed at ebay, both mentioning Sweetwater and Jerry Lee, and the date is Dec 14 in both cases.

Thanks for mentioning the book, will see if I can track it down...sounds mighty interesting
