Smile, Flower Child and Love You Like Mad were all outtakes which were released in November 2004 by Itunes as part of their U2 Complete collection of downloads. They were not sold individually, but only as part of the $149.99 download set. Several other unreleased U2 songs were also included. These 3 songs were outakes from All That You Can't Leave Behind and will not feature at all on this fall's new U2 album.
Mercy is a song that was included on an early promo pressing of How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, a copy of which made it into the hands of a U2 fan, who then put the song online. It was a last minute drop off the album, but is pretty well known among hardcore U2 fans. Some rumors have suggested that U2 would have another go at this unrleeased song for the new album, but it's unknown if they actually tried recording it again.

If those 4 songs represent the new album - I wouldn't buy it (maybe "love you like mad" is decent).
It is worse than the last - the standard of U2's albums is slowly getting worse and worse.
Sorry, that's my opinion.
If the CD sells better than Bigger Bang - then it is not about the music, but Bonos socalled humanitarian work.

I like bum bum's humanitarian work - excellent. Without a doubt, astounding.

errrr, Hello.... did you say IF the the new U2 release sells better than Bigger Fizz, sorry Bigger Bang. The only IF in this case is IF the U2 sales exceed ABB in its first 10 minutes of release.
Just waiting for the rest of the IORR cavalry to strap on the blinkers, come bearing down and tell us how everything the Stones have done is far superior to U2. Yeah right.
Talking of which, surely must be time to embark on a lengthy discussion on merits of Mick Taylor or Ron Wood. Or then again I am sure there are plenty more fish jokes out there to be told.
Sad sad sad

Am I the only one that thinks Bono sounds like he is singing one long song over an over, and the Edge is playing two chords over an over with the delay pedal of course,
That being said I dont think U2 is all that great, everything sounds similar IMHO.
For me it is all about the music nothing else, out performing is a opinion out selling is a fact, but U2 still sucks musically when compared to the Stones,U made me say it.Quote

It's funny how bands who consistently out-perform and out-sell the Stones are not popular around here!
Oh and by the way, does anyone have a postage stamp so I can write down all of the wonderful causes that Mick and 'the boys' have bothered their arses to get involved with over the years.
Nicaragua apart, they've been too busy posing and postulating to get involved with anything other than raising ticket prices to try and compensate for their increasingly derisory record sales.
Let's drink for the hard-working people, hey Mick!
