I guess I'm in the minority here, but I actually prefer the Stones version of "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." Howling Mick - I love it.

What's Keith playing on this? It's got a nasty growl and seems to be in standard tuning. The Les Paul Jr. with the P-90?
I would say so -it's that growling sound he had during these '74/'75 sessions. It's the same sound as on Slave, which I think is the Junior with the Boogie MkI prototype they recieved for the sessions.

Rene,
You asked for comments.
Your post gives three separate recording dates but one fixed list of personnel.
I'm surprised if Mick T wasn't at one of those sessions.
Your list says: K Richards : guitar.
But there's more than one guitar on it isn't there?
So shouldn't it either be K Richards: guitars or an extra credit for Mick T?

Don't think MT made the session, as he was indisposed. Keith doubled methinks.

One of the rare tracks whose studio version is far better than any live performance. The solo from Keith is great and gives this cover a more aggressive style than the original version. Unfortunately the Bigger Bang live versions are very lame.

Love the tune. The version on IORR is still the best.

Am I the only one who feels embarrassed about this clip?

the Stones' version would be better if it didn't sound as if it were recorded in an airtight chamber.

Nice cover tune - the guitars are great (which sets this apart from the original) as are Mick's snarly vocals.
But as with 99% of Stones cover tunes, the original is superior.

Guess it's all a matter of taste. Personally, I'd rather hear the Stones version of ATPTB than the original. Same with Just My Imagination....but I prefer rock to soul, that's just me.
