Reinventing Keith's Set

I love Keith's stuff, but I recall a bunch of harping here for his leaning into Infamy--even though he was doing new material. As I think about the possibility of a new tour, perhaps his set can be reinvented to make it as compelling as it once was (for all).

Anyway here's the idea

1. Give Mick You Got the Silver to do, not every show but put it into rotation
2. Bring Love is Strong into your repertoire
3. Do more covers, Learning the Game was fantastic, thank you.
4. Do one of your kick ass tunes from the new album that you're about to release
5. Do a few duets with folks like Tom Waits, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, and others who complement your style and with whom you've worked or want to work.

I'm thinking if Keith does 4 tunes then we can get 22-24 tunes in a show. I can dream can't I?

I'm still trying to catch Thru & Thru, and would love to hear Can't Be Seen. Infamy was brilliant live - blows the doors off the studio version IMHO.

Imfamy live to me was badly missing Mick's harmonica part. How cool would it have been to have Mick wailing away on the harp while Keith sang. Missed opportunity for something different right there.

After watching the bonus parts of Shine A Light I wish Keith and the Stones in general would do a few more acoustic tunes, they sounded great on Shine A Light and were lucky to get even one acoustic song at recent live shows.

What about Mick and Keith doing one song together before Keith's set, like they did with Connection in some 95 shows? Would be great to see them singing together Happy first time since 70s.

Couldn't agree more Hound Dog, the accustic stuff is great when they do it. Dead Flowers was fabulous at Churchill Downs.

Good point; there are so many great accoustic songs.

I used to love Factory Girl during the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour, but I don't think they ever revisited it again, once that tour was over.

they did it in new jersey on the B2B tour....and i don't think it was done on the SW tour...just the ensuing UJ one....

the general argument you are making is a valid one -if you look at the overall stones studio canon and then compare with the typical setlist - there's almost no relationship....their albums are chalked full of country songs, blues songs, mid-tempo soulful tunes - and yes, some up-tempo rockers, whereas their live shows feature almost nothing but the latter type. it's jagger and his obsession with keeping the energy level "up."

I think they HAVE to re-think it then.
In the last 10 years, their strongest numbers hav all been blues/country/soul/ballad stuff. They should focus manly on a show like that. Age has kicked their ability in the teeth to pull of what they did in the 70s, 80's and 90's. Keith, bless his heart, should concentrate on his guitar and leave the singing for the singer.

I was always a supporter of more acoustic tracks. Especially for the b-stage. Imagine if they do an acoustic track for an opener. Not the big blow out they usually do, but more in the vein of Not Fade Away 1994/1995. Just taken more into the extreme. Think about it. If they had a big curtain in front of the stage that goes up after some intro. Then it's only Mick and Keith doing As Tears Go By or something like that. Would be great. Then on the b-stage they could do something like New Faces, Sympathy (Acoustic - Dreaming), Country Honk, Sweet Vagina, Dead Flowers or Let It Bleed. Worthy of a cumshot if you ask me. grinning smiley

Um....

I know it was a rehearsal for SAL but Mick bringing the vocals in on Connection because Keith was too busy goofing and then going way out of key....

How about Keith finds a coupe of keys he can sing in and revolve the songs around that. T&A is scary but You Got The Silver is brilliant. Etc...

How about Salt Of The Earth and letting Keith sing it.

If they use guests, why not have them sing with Keith's set instead? Imagine John Hiatt strolling out when Mick leaves??? Keith could sing on stuff he's not done before that way, and then the guests won't be talking away from Mick, see?
