John Mayer is a joke, don't let him near the studio unless you want fluffy pop songs. Jack White on the other hand would be interesting.

Jack would definately be the man....brutal slide player, and with his vox, you could strip down the band.

We would be up for a theatre tour, again, too.

Mick Taylor would be nice to have back. And lets get rid of the "hired" bass player. I'm sure Wyman can still put down some pretty good "riffs"

Mick Taylor is the joke. Unfortunately.

I saw John Mayer, reluctantly, two weeks ago. Prior to that, I also thought his music was light, but don't let those mellow songs fool you. He rocked the house on Crossroads, Burning down the house an Free Falling, and a quick look at his set list had him open his show a few stops earlier with Start me Up. He can flat play guitar, his vocal range is amazing, and he seems cool enough to be able to hang with both Keith and Mick, which next to his ability is equally important, i.e. Ron Wood.

A Rolling stones song about Barack Obama? Is that a joke?

I graduated high school with John Mayer and see him fairly often. Two of his best friends who he used to play in a band with, a drummer and bassist, still play with him often but are fast to get pushed aside. Lets just say his personality has not earned him many fans in his hometown.

I saw John Mayer open for the Stones a few years ago with faux Double Trouble (Pino Paladino and steve Jordan). I didn't get it then and I still don't get it. My wife likes him though.

I bought the JM trio live album with him palladino and jordan (guess why?). Not impressed by his singing, and not impressed by his guitar playing (at least in that recording - he is something in between Robben Ford and SRV, in between meaning that he is not as good as RF and misses all the soul of SRV)

Barack Obama, John Mayer etc. You gotta be joking, if anyone follows these advises that will be the end of any band...

The promotional tag line could go:

"We are the band we have been waiting for."

I think the reason The Rolling Stones are with us today - they just do their own thing - always have. They've been doing this for 45+ years and still people try to "enlighten" them as to the right path *lol*

point taken on John Mayer- I didnt go to HS with him and only thought he sounded good when I saw him live.

The Obama comment was in response to the Sweet Neo Con song from the last go around..

Mick often writes about current US politics, no?

To say nothing of the fact that his first hit was called "Your Body is a Wonderland" and it was as bad as the title sounds. Just the title alone is enough to make me puke. He's a male Britney Spears, a moderately talented individual who got where he is on looks and some excrutiatingly bad pop songs. What was that other song of his, some sort of soft rock horror show ... I think it was called "Daugheters."

Now he's going to hire a rock rhythm section and oww, he's a big bad rocker. Right, he sounds no better than hundreds of guys in bar bands across the country. Poser.

The Stones and John Mayer in the same sentence is ludicrous.

Hi Mick,

How are the wives and kids? I hope and trust all is well and you've been enjoying your vacation from your day job. I look forward to seeing your 1 min cameo appearance at the Olympics as you're checking out which new stadiums you'll play at over there.

Congrats on the new record deal, pending tour, and the continued success of your, Keith's and Charlie's band.

As a loyal listener of your music, I wanted to commend you on your last effort. Its also nice to hear that you're getting ready to get the writing and recording process started again. When your gone from here, the results of these sessions is the main way generations to come will know who you are, kind of like I don't know much about Hank Williams, who died before I was born, but I know the words to damn near all his songs.

If I were you, I'd get my bro Keith to France to my house and I'd spend a week "drinking a little beer (champagne and Nuclear Waste), and smoking a few joints". These spirits will help you bring back the friendship you have that develops rust during these periods of separation, and friction during the periods together.

I'd then see what he has brought, whip out some of your new songs about Barack Obama and some other current topics, and then have another listen to some stuff from the past you guys never finished.

Then call in your better third, Charlie Watts, and let him lay some skin down on that stuff. At the same time, which would be when the Faces are finishing rehabbing Ronnie, I'd bring in some talent to help with a few guitar parts.

It'll kind of be like Black and Blue all over. Send the private plane to get them, stock the plane with what they need to hit the ground running, and make sure they are accompanied on the plane by someone in your org you trust to explain what they're walking in to, and not Michael Cohl. Maybe a back line guy who can be a familiar face when the recording starts, but who can also help them navigate the lay of the land once they get to your pad.

The guy on the top of my list would be John Mayer (Yes, he will come) , and then I'd bring in Clapton or someone you know for old times sake, and maybe add in two others, making sure everyone who gets invited are talented enough, and possibly interested enough, to not only playing on a couple new tracks, but also in going out with you guys on the road if Ronnie heads To Russia with Love, or somewhere other than where his head needs to be.

The sitch with Ron is sad, but that's a different story and this is a business, and no one knows that better than you. Your fans depend on you to do everything in your power to help Ron as a family member in need, but if he continues to default, there is a point where you have to move on.

So, hopefully he does well with with his buddy Rod, who will pay the tab for Ron's stint in Rock and Roll Rehab on the road, and if your informants tell you he is shaping up, forget about John Mayer and the rest.

Welcome back,

Chelskeith

I could be content with Rarities Two if they broke out the rest of the rare 12" only stuff to coincide with the other nonalbum tracks thru the years until the new album is ready.

The only thing I want is something good by the RS !
I don't care about an album or not. I don't want them to record an album if they have nothing interesting inside.
If there is a tour, I want good music like they used to do. I want Keith to be able to play, well, with Ronnie and nobody else? A new guitarist after 33 years of Ronnie would be a complete non sense even if it is Mick Taylor.

Play rock and roll, lads !

Sorry for my english ; I'm a french little boy (but I like it)

This thread looks like a persiflage of the "new album wishlist"-thread from a little while ago. LOL.
So please don't use market research to determine what your new album should sound like, or it'll end up like Rod Stewart's "Still the Same Rock Classics of Our Time" for J Records, which is utterly bland. You know, calculating the average taste of a large number of people will eventually lead to something uninspiring. That's why the music on the radio is so boring these days.
