Satisfaction - Live at the Marquee

Just found it and I'm sorry if it has been posted here before but Jagger seems totally drunk on this.
We can also see Whiskey bottle around, Keith and Bobby Keys drinking.

Sorry for my english ; I'm a french little boy (but I like it)

Wow, the Stones under the influence while on stage? I'm shocked, shocked!

I thought the 1971 arrangement of 'Satisfaction' was appalling, particularly on the otherwise brilliant Leeds show.

I know the boys have been drunk live, but I've never actually seen them drinking on stage before. Cool version.

I actually liked the Leeds '71 version alot. Besides the version they did during the '69 tour it's my favorite!

My fave versions are the medleys they did with 'Goin' Home' on the 1967 European Tour (with Brian Jones playing mellotron!), but I also have a soft spot for the Hyde Park '69 version.

The '71 version is far and away my favorite. From my perspective, after hearing Satisfaction on the radio 17,000 times, the riff starts to get old and the song becomes one's least favorite Stones tune. Mine anyway. When I first heard this very different version, I thought, wow, now THAT really cooks. It's a great groove, I think, and when my band does this tune I aim for it to sound like the Marquee/Leeds version.

yeah great version, they should improvise a bit more on songs like this and not trying to play the original version all the time

Got any proof about Brian playing mellotron during the 67 tour? As far as I am aware, no photos show him playing one and no bootlegs that I have heard feature it.

The only keyboard seen and heard onstage is his Vox Continental. If you have something that proves he used one then I'd really like to see/hear it.

Reason #56 to open the vaults.

A decent clean version of this show would be a hoot!

No proof, only what other have told me (which may well be wrong). But take a listen (at 3:28, after 'Let's Spend The Night Together') to 'Satisfaction' live in Paris in '67, & let me know what you think are making those bizarre sounds...keyboards, harmonica, feedback guitar? I can't quite tell myself.

You can hear the Vox Continental during LSTNT, and there's feedback from Brian's guitar during Satisfaction.

His use of a Gibson ES-330 in to a Vox Supreme is a recipe for feedback at stage volumes. I own a supreme and I'd say he's got the fuzz engaged which would induce crazy microphonics and squealing.

Is that someone else playing keys there?
Mick's funny when he parles on the Francese!

It sounds at least like controlled feedback to me though...

Whatever, I find it a very exciting version, especially when combined with 'Goin' Home', the (missing from here) first half of the medley.

I'd gladly sell my mother to have a complete pro film of a 1967 show! tongue sticking out smiley

It's Brian on the Vox Continental James.

It sounds like it's intentional feedback to me too, whether he's succeeding in controlling it is another matter. Brian does Jimi Hendrix!? smoking smiley

I dunno if I'd sell my mother, but a pro shot film of the 67 tour would be an amazing thing to have!!! eye popping smiley

Anyway, back to the Marquee. Interesting to hear the stones play so clean, the volume of their ampegs must have been too much for the Marquee.

I dig the slow r&b like Satisfaction, a cool groove for sure! cool smiley

I think this version is sort of the Pre-Curser to the 75 76 GOOMC

Ryan points out another gem, a somewhat rare occasion when the Stones performed a brave, re-arranged, very different version of a huge hit. So we have

'71 Satisfaction
'76 Get Off My Cloud
'81 Time is On My Side

What else?? There are a few sorta different versions, like the recent electric guitar riff-driven 'No Expectations' , and of course the Ya Ya's version of Sympathy, and some other acoustic-turned electric tunes (a la Angie), but what else has been really re-arranged for a NEW sound on stage?

the part that reminds me of the live GOOMC is around 4:20 when he says Hey!....Hey!....." it sounds like the call and response w/ billy preston.

78 had a really cool satisfaction they did a couple of times. definetley a diffrent take on that song.

I like how on the SW tour he did they "Can you hit me one time.. two times... three times.. " thing.

One of my favourite re-arrangements (& one of their most drastic) was 'It's All Over Now' on 'Sunday Night At THe London Palladium' in 1967:

The Hyde Park '69 show also featured several re-arrangements, with 'Stray Cat Blues' & 'Mercy Mercy' being favourites.

Another re-arrangement we should mention is the 1990 slow blues version of 'I Just Want To Make Love To You'.

smile: i always thought the hyper-hormonal 1964 version of that was the re-arrangement

Of course...but the 1990 arragement was still very different from the Rolling Stones' studio version.

Perhaps also worth metioning is the 1989-1990 version of 'Little Red Rooster'. This was performed in a higher key than usuaul ('C' instead of 'G') & it had quite a different feel to the '64 version (though Mick first used this arrangement on his solo tours in '88).

A great clip from a superb DVD.

I loved the way they played it on the 1971 tour.

Keith had just come off heroin and I think the band knew the whole Marquee project was a wank. Mick has sung himself into laryngitis.

You're welcome!

They also did another drastic re-working of 'It's All Over Now' at their 4 U.S. concerts (Los Angeles & Honolulu) in January '73.
