Re: Which was cooler, the Stones on 5th Ave. or the Beatles on the roof?

The Rolling Stones. They were on the street, not hidden out of view...and it was a performance...not a edited video shoot.
John Lennon set a good trend bringing Yoko into the studio...NOT.

2012 Stones vs Beatle rooftop

With a few weeks to digest what we witnessed I can't help but become less critical of the Stones performances and begin to place those nights in historical perspective. In a way the anniversary celebration can only be compared to The Beatles goodbye some 40 years ago and I'd say The Stones did pretty darn good with their farewell which I hope continues for a decade...

Yep, you're totally right. Musical scientists and researchers have been hard at work recently and they've come to the same conclusion! eye rolling smiley

DoomandGloom, do you actually like and enjoy music on it's own? Or do you feel you have to put it into a competition in order to enjoy it?

Ouch... I can see by your other posts you think we're all a bunch of over analyzing a-holes perhaps reacting negatively to fanatics is what gets you off. You're in the right place for that.

Is DoomandGloom the same poster as the former DoomNGloom (who definitely was into the competition business in a big way)?

Now, let's get back to comparing two shows that have absolutely nothing to do with each other, shall we?

ok - can we compare the rooftop show with the stones' mocambo show? billy preston there for both, so i think it's critical we analyze the relative pros and cons. billy's afro was bigger at mocambo, but does that necessarily mean he played better?

No I am a virgin. Sorry if you think this topic is stupid I'll take my hits. What I meant to say was in hindsight The Stones have done a great job mistakes and all and if this was goodbye or the beginning of it we've had a treat that compares to very few events.

Sorry to be suspicious - you've picked a notorious board name, and it's now up to you to restore its bad reputation.

I don't really think you can compare the two events. For one thing, I don't think the Stones' rooftop concert moment has arrived yet, and for another, I don't think they will ever do an official farewell performance.

Well, that depends. Was his afro affecting the intensity of his head bopping? I would assume that if the afro was bigger and heavier, his head bop wouldn't be as passionate and therefore his playing would diminish a bit. That's just my theory.

Don't be silly - everyone knows the bigger the afro, the better you play, silly!

it's no match for side five....a good comparison for that side would be the beatles' tabletop concert....

How does that compare to the Stones' Stones In A Bottle concert? At least up there with side 6?
