would The Who be a arena or stadium band in America or the world for that matter, or both as The Stones. I have been thinking about this all day.

The Who would be doing long tours to keep Keith out of trouble, and out of the looney bin.

If Moon were still alive, I doubt he would be the powerhouse he was at his prime. It is so hard to believe he's been dead for 30 years. The Who, like McCartney, are the beneficiaries of their younger, accomplished band-mates.

If Moon were still alive, the Who would have either long since moved onto another drummer or he would have settled into a much less manic style. The classic Keith Moon drumming style as played on that massive kit was not meant for middle-aged people.

When he died, I wanted Pete Thomas from the Attractions to replace him. Listen to Lipstick Vogue on This Year's Model, and you'll hear EXACTLY why. Thomas is making a full Moon racket on a four-piece kit.

Watch The Kids Are Alright. Moon's decline between Can't Explain (when he was 18) and Won't Get Fooled Again (when he was 31) is just sad. He's the greatest rock drummer that ever lived on Can't Explain (check out those fills on the chorus), but he's behind the beat and can't even keep up with the prerecorded tapes on Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again. Talk about squandered talent.

I understand that he didn't practice at home when the Who weren't touring. By the time he was pushing 30, it was a major effort for him to get into decent enough shape to tour. By the time the Who was making Who Are You, his bandmates were getting ready to fire him. His playing on that album is his most ordinary.
